Primary Parent's Bulletin 12.06.26

Head of Primary's Message

Dear Parents and carers,

I would like to start by congratulating our Year 1 children on completing their Phonics Screening Check this week. It was wonderful to see all the children approach this reading task with such confidence and positivity and showing off their Phonics’ knowledge.

Next week, we will be celebrating all things scientific in our Science Week. Throughout the week, the children will be taking part in some fun, hands-on science activities, exploring, experimenting, and discovering together. This exciting week of curiosity and learning will include a special dress-up day to end the week on Friday 19th June, where children are invited to come dressed as a scientist, inventor, or anything science-related. There will also be a best dressed competition for each year group, so get creative!

Once again, thank you for your continued support with your child or children’s learning. It is going to be an exciting and busy final few weeks as this academic year draws to a close and as always, we are committed to providing many learning opportunities and experiences for the children.

Warm regards,

 Ms. A Thakore

Magical Moments

Every two weeks, we take time to celebrate the Magical Moments happening across our school — those special sparks of curiosity, creativity, and deep learning that make each day meaningful. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Avanti Fields is all about.

We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!

Sunflower room

Sunflowers have really enjoyed using different resources to support them to count to the number 10.

Preschool

Preschool have been learning about measuring. The children looked at different sized sunflowers. They used cubes to measure how tall the sunflowers were.

Reception

Reception Class have really enjoyed exploring the solar system this week. They have learnt about different plants in the milky way galaxy. The have also learnt about what makes so special.

Year 1

Year 1 have been having fun exploring money in Maths. They have been sorting, ordering and recognising coins and notes. Could you create a toy shop at home and take it in turns to be customers?

Year 2

Year 2 have had an excellent start to their Forest school learning. What an amazing opportunity that we have in our very own grounds at Avanti Fields. The children have explored the natural area, enjoyed mindful moments, searched for bugs and different kinds of leaves, used binoculars and even picked weeds! We have found out some fascinating facts about the plants that grow there and cannot wait to continue to expand our knowledge even further next week!

Year 3

Year 3 have been busy creating artwork inspired by silhouettes in negative spaces for our Art Gallery! Here’s a sneak peak of our amazing artwork! Make sure you come to our Art Gallery to see our amazing creations! 😊

 Science week

Week commencing 15th June, we will be celebrating Science Week! 🔬✨

This will include a special dress-up day to end the week on Friday 19th June, where children are invited to come dressed as a scientist, inventor, or anything science-related.

What will you come as? You could dress as a scientist, astronaut, doctor, robot, animal, or even a planet!  There will also be a best dressed competition for each year group, so get creative!

Throughout the week, we will be taking part in some fun, hands-on science activities, exploring, experimenting, and discovering together.

It’s set to be an exciting week full of curiosity and learning!

Power Down – Energy Saving Week

Next week, we are going to trial an energy saving competition in the school. Our Eco-Warriors from each class will be carefully monitoring whether all members of each class are switching off lights and other devices whenever they are not in use. The Eco-Warriors will complete a special grid for the week, and these will be checked to decide which class is the winning class. The winners will be awarded some extra playtime on Friday 19th June.

Rights Respecting School information

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles.

Rights Respecting School information

Article 13 – Freedom of Expression (Week 1)

Every child has the right to express their thoughts, ideas and feelings freely through speaking, writing, drawing or any other form of communication, as long as it does not harm others.

Why it matters: Article 13 helps children develop confidence and a sense of voice. When children are encouraged to share their ideas, they feel valued and respected. In school, this supports learning, creativity and positive relationships.

At home activity: Create a “My Voice Matters” piece. This could be a drawing, short story, poem or poster about something your child cares about (e.g. kindness, the environment, friendship). Encourage them to explain their ideas and why they are important.

 Message from Children's Commissioner England

Children’s Commissioner would like to conduct national survey to capture student views. Students are encouraged to take part in national survey. Please see below link.

The more pupils who participate from school, the more accurately their experiences, views and aspirations will be reflected in the national picture that will help shape future policy.

At a time of significant change for children and young people, it is more important than ever that their views are reflected in policymaking. Through this survey, they can take the voices of  students directly to the centre of government.

Student champions who generate particularly high levels of participation will receive a formal thank you from office of Children’s Commissioner for England to recognising their contribution to amplifying young people’s voices.

Schools and colleges with the highest response levels will be invited to attend final Festival of Childhood, celebrating the voices and contributions of children and young people from across England.
