Head of Primary's Message
Dear Parents and carers,
As we move towards the final weeks of the academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and to share some important reminders, as well as some staff changes that will be taking place in the new academic year.
Attendance and Punctuality
First and foremost, a key focus for us remains attendance and punctuality. Even as we approach the end of term, it is vital that children continue to attend school every day and arrive on time. Every day of learning still counts, and we want to ensure that all pupils finish the year strong and make the most of every remaining opportunity.
Staff Updates for the New Academic Year
As we approach the end of the academic year, I would like to share some changes to our team.
Miss Rashid and Miss Kaur have both shared the wonderful news that they got married this year and, as a result, will be relocating. This means that they will both be leaving Avanti Primary at the end of this academic year.
Both Miss Rashid and Miss Kaur have been truly brilliant teachers who have lived and breathed the Avanti way. I am incredibly proud of the impact they have had on our children, our families and our school community. Their dedication, care and commitment have been clear in everything they have done, and they will be greatly missed by us all.
We will also be saying goodbye to some of our valued support staff this year. Mrs Dave and Mrs B Patel will be moving on to pastures new, where they will have the opportunity to spend more time with their families. I would like to say a huge thank you to them both for the care, support and dedication they have shown to our children and staff over the years.
Miss Rashid, Mrs Dave and Mrs Patel have been part of our journey since the very beginning of Avanti Primary, joining us when the school first opened with just 120 children. I cannot thank them enough for the role they have played in helping to shape our school into what it is today. Their contributions have helped build the strong foundations and caring community that we are so proud of.
End of Year Arrangements
As we prepare to close the academic year, please also note the following important arrangements:
There are no after-school clubs running during the final week of term (week beginning 6th July).
The last day of term, Friday 10th July, will be a half day for all pupils. All children will need to be collected at 12:45pm from their normal collection points.

Magical Moments
Every two weeks, we take time to celebrate the Magical Moments happening across our school — those special sparks of curiosity, creativity, and deep learning that make each day meaningful. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Avanti Fields is all about.
We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!
Sunflower | This week, the Sunflower children have been learning about people who help us in our community. They have thoroughly enjoyed taking on the roles of doctors, nurses, and dentists during role-play activities, using their imaginations to care for patients and learn about these important jobs. |  |
Preschool | Pre-school have enjoyed exploring habitats this week, the children have enjoyed exploring the habitat of farm animals. We are so proud of how the children have been discussing which animals live on the farm and how the children have been able to describe what the animals look like. |  |
Reception | In Reception, we have been learning about the different types of transport we see around us. We talked about how vehicles help people travel on land, in the air, and on water. We explored the shapes that make up different vehicles and used a variety of shapes to create our own cars, buses, trains, boats, and aeroplanes.

Year 1 | Year 1 have been learning sewing skills in D&T and were very excited to make their own soft toys. The children learnt how to thread a needle, tie a knot and use a running stitch to join fabric together. We are so proud of their perseverance and concentration whilst they created their products.

Year 2 | As part of Science Week, Siya R from Tulip Class (Year 2) shared a brilliant science experiment that demonstrated the fascinating interaction between dish soap and glitter. Thank you, Siya, for sparking curiosity and inspiring others through your love of science and discovery. We thoroughly enjoyed learning from your experiment!

Year 3 | Year 3 had so much fun learning about different strands of science including how objects expand and contract, and how they can be magnified using a microscope. They also learnt how a bird can balance on its beak, using coins! They have thoroughly enjoyed Science week! |  |
Ratha Yatra Celebrations (24th June)
On Wednesday, our school came alive with colour, devotion and joy as we celebrated the beautiful festival of Ratha Yatra. It was a truly fantastic day, with children taking part wholeheartedly in this special celebration.
The children not only pulled the ropes of the chariot, but lovingly pulled Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra into their hearts. The atmosphere was filled with uplifting Hare Krishna kirtan as the children sang joyfully, dressed in their beautiful traditional clothes, and joined together in a spirit of devotion, celebration and community. The day was made even more special with a wonderful festive prasadam feast, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. A heartfelt thank you to all the families who kindly contributed fruits and flowers to decorate the chariot and support the celebration.
It was a peaceful, memorable and spiritually uplifting day for our whole school community and everyone really enjoyed singing Kirtan together!
End of year Picnic
As outlined in the school calendar, we are pleased to remind you that our End of Year Picnic will take place on the last day of term, Friday 10th July.
The picnic will begin at 11:30am and finish at 12:30pm. During this time, children will enjoy a special picnic menu, which will include:
Cheese and cucumber sandwiches
Cheese and salad wraps
Jam sandwiches
Children will be able to choose their preferred option on the day as a special treat.
All meals will be served with crisps, a drink, and a chocolate waffle. Please be assured that any children with allergies will be fully accommodated.
After the picnic, children will return to their classrooms to collect their belongings before dismissal at 12:45pm.
This will be a Teddy Bear Picnic, and we encourage children to bring their favourite teddy, doll, or soft toy to join in the fun.
Please note:
All year groups will be dismissed at 12:45pm.
Dismissal will take place in the usual locations, with the exception of Year 3, who will be dismissed from the Sunflower Room (near the Year 1 classrooms).
Parents of children in Year 2 and Year 3 are kindly reminded that this is a park and stride day.
There will be no after-school clubs during the final week of the academic year.
We look forward to celebrating the end of term with a fun and memorable event for the children.
Summer Reading Challenge 2026
Children have been issued with their Summer Reading Challenge book today. They can sign up for the challenge at your local library and then enjoy reading over the summer. Don't forget to give our school's name to your local library – the school across Leicester with the most registered young readers will have a chance to win £100 to buy books for their school library. Let's get reading!!!!
Reading Books' Return
Please may we have all the Home Reader and other reading books returned to school on Monday 29th June. This will allow us to carry out a book audit and get the libraries ready for the next academic year. Children can continue reading by taking part in the reading challenge above. Thank you.

Rights Respecting School information
Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles.

World Refugee Day
This day recognises the strength and courage of people who have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict, danger or natural disasters. Children who are refugees have the same rights as all children.
Why it matters: World Refugee Day helps children understand fairness, empathy and inclusion. It reminds us that everyone deserves safety, education and care, no matter where they come from. In a Rights Respecting School, we promote kindness and understanding towards all.
At home activity: Read or watch a child-friendly story about a refugee. Then create a “Welcome Poster” showing how your family or school could help someone new feel safe and included. Discuss how this links to children’s rights, especially the right to protection and education.

Dear Parents,
The PTFA is delighted to announce our upcoming School Mela!
We warmly invite you to support us in making this a fun and memorable day for everyone. There will be a variety of stalls and exciting entertainment for children, including a funfair, as well as fire brigade and police demonstrations. A selection of food and ice cream will also be available.
All proceeds from the event will go directly back to supporting the school.

LEICESTER RATHAYATRA Festival of Chariots 2026
Join us on Sunday 28th June 2026 as Leicester’s city centre comes alive with a joyful celebration of devotion and spirituality.
Experience the breathtaking sight of a majestic 40ft hand-pulled chariot carrying the magnificent Deities of Lord Jagannath (Krishna), Lord Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi.
The procession will journey from Leicester City Centre, along the famous Golden Mile, and into Cossington Park, accompanied by joyous music, traditional dancing, and devotional chanting.
