Head of Secondary's Message


A huge thank you to Mr Backhouse and the PTFA for organising a wonderful Prom for our Year 11 students. It was a fantastic evening and a fitting celebration of their Avanti journey. The event provided a memorable evening for students and staff. We now look forward to celebrating the culmination of their hard work and dedication on results day, Thursday 20th August 2026.


I would also like to congratulate our Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh's Award students who completed their expedition last week. The assessors were particularly impressed by the way students worked together throughout the expedition, supporting one another and demonstrating resilience when faced with challenges. These qualities are at the heart of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and were evident throughout the experience. 


It was wonderful to visit the students at camp and see them cooking their own meals, pitching tents and taking responsibility for themselves and their teams. They all performed exceptionally well, particularly given the very warm weather conditions they experienced during the expedition.


Students should now ensure that they complete their project work and upload all required evidence to the eDofE portal so that every section of their award can be reviewed and signed off. We look forward to celebrating their achievements as they progress towards completing their awards.


We still have many enrichment and celebration opportunities to look forward to in the final weeks of this academic year, including the Year 9 Plas Gywnant residential, our annual Sports Awards Evening, end of term celebration breakfasts and the Winning House celebration. There is much to celebrate, and these events provide an opportunity to recognise the commitment, effort and achievements of our students across the school. Exciting weeks lie ahead as we bring another successful academic year to a close.

ECO Committee Working Towards the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award 



The School Council, and in particular our dedicated ECO Committee, have worked incredibly hard throughout this academic year as they prepared their application for the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.

The Eco-Schools Green Flag is an internationally recognised award that celebrates schools that are committed to environmental education and sustainability. To achieve the award, pupils must demonstrate how they have identified environmental issues within the school, developed action plans, led projects, and encouraged positive environmental change across the whole school community.

Over the past year, our ECO Committee has shown outstanding commitment and leadership. They have worked tirelessly to promote environmental awareness, support recycling initiatives, encourage litter reduction, and help make our school a greener and more sustainable place for everyone.

The application has now been submitted, and we are eagerly awaiting the outcome. Regardless of the result, we are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork and dedication shown by all members of the ECO Committee. Their efforts have already made a positive impact on our school environment and have helped inspire others to think more carefully about how we can all contribute to protecting our planet.

We would like to thank all pupils, staff, parents and carers who have supported the ECO Committee throughout the year. We look forward to sharing the outcome of our application with the school community as soon as we receive the results. Well done to everyone involved! 🌱♻️🌍

This week Art Gallery celebrates African Mask designs by Year 7 students using wax resist techniques.




Support Our School Council's First Ever Stall

Join Us at the School Mela – Saturday 5th July

We are delighted to invite all parents, carers, families, staff and members of our local community to our upcoming School Mela, organised by our fantastic PTFA, on Saturday 5th July.

The Mela promises to be a wonderful celebration of our school community, culture and creativity, with plenty of activities, stalls and opportunities to support both the school and local charities.



We are especially excited that our School Council will be running their very first fundraising stall. Our pupils have been working hard to create and source a range of beautiful handcrafted items made from recycled and repurposed saris, including:

🧵 Hair Scrunchies 👜 Tote Bags 🎀 Headbands 👗 Belts 🏡 Cushion Covers

Not only are these items unique and sustainable, but every purchase will help support causes that are important to our pupils.

Raising Money for Charity

Funds raised from the School Council stall will be shared between three charities chosen by our pupils: 

  • The Local Goshalla

  • Action for Children

  • Global Hindu Federation

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop leadership, enterprise and community engagement skills whilst making a positive difference to others.



Name the Bear Competition

Think you can come up with the perfect name? Take part in our fun "Name the Bear" competition for the chance to win a prize and help raise even more money for charity.

🧶 Silent Auction

Don't miss the opportunity to bid in our Silent Auction for a stunning handmade crocheted baby blanket. Lovingly crafted, this beautiful item would make a wonderful gift for a new arrival or a treasured keepsake.

Events such as the School Mela help strengthen our school community and provide valuable opportunities for our young people to develop confidence, teamwork, creativity and fundraising skills.

We would love to see as many families, friends and staff as possible on Saturday 5th July. Your support, whether through attending, purchasing an item, entering a competition or placing a bid in the auction, will make a real difference.

Gratitude Club update

Golden Leaf Gratitude: Celebrating Father’s Day 

Last week, we celebrated Father’s Day in a truly heart warming way through our Gold Leaf gratitude activity. Students were invited to take home a gold leaf and write a message of thanks to a parent, carer, father figure, or special family member. The aim was to encourage our young people to pause and recognise the unconditional love, kindness, care, and support they receive from the important adults in their lives.

It was lovely to see so many students taking part and thoughtfully preparing messages to bring home. These small golden leaves carried big words of appreciation, reminding us that gratitude can have a lasting impact. Students followed the Avanti Way by practising gratitude, and their leaves shared heartfelt messages with parents and carers, who were grateful to receive them.

Thank you to everyone, especially all those who supported the activity and helped make it such a meaningful celebration. Some of the students wrote a gold leaf for Avanti staff as well, a selection of these are included.

The Gratitude Club will continue to focus on thanking parents and carers. There will also be an opportunity to thank Avanti staff for their continued inspiration and support. All entries from last week until the end of term will go into a grand draw in the final week, giving students the opportunity to win prizes.

All Gold leaf entries will also receive positive points, and the prize draw will take place on the last Thursday of the term.

Summer Mela


The PTFA is delighted to announce our upcoming School Mela!

We warmly invite you to support us in making this a fun and memorable day for everyone. There will be a variety of stalls and exciting entertainment for children, including a funfair, as well as fire brigade and police demonstrations. A selection of food and ice cream will also be available.

All proceeds from the event will go directly back to supporting the school. We hope to see you there with your family and friends!

The PTFA proudly brings to you a hilarious Gujarati Natak that promises an evening full of laughter and entertainment for the whole family. This special event will feature renowned Bollywood star Ketki Dave along with her talented team, who are sure to keep you laughing all the way!

LEICESTER RATHAYATRA Festival of Chariots 2026



Join us on Sunday 28th June 2026 as Leicester’s city centre comes alive with a joyful celebration of devotion and spirituality.

Experience the breath-taking sight of a majestic 40ft hand-pulled chariot carrying the magnificent Deities of Lord Jagannath (Krishna), Lord Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi.

 The procession will journey from Leicester City Centre, along the famous Golden Mile, and into Cossington Park, accompanied by joyous music, traditional dancing, and devotional chanting.
