Primary Parent's Bulletin 01.05.26

Head of Primary's Message

Dear Parents and carers,

We truly enjoyed celebrating Earth Day this week. It was fantastic to see all the children dressed up in their Earth or nature themed outfits, showing imagination and creativity in creating homemade, recycled or reused costumes. During the special Earth Day Assembly, we were able to choose the best costumes created from ideas ranging from animals, plants, flowers, the four elements, recycling champions, gardeners, oceans, forests or “protect the planet” superheroes made from recycled materials.

During the week, children were also able to take part in PTFA-led gardening sessions, helping to improve and care for our school outdoor spaces. We truly had a wonderful week celebrating together and supporting the children’s understanding of how we can care for our environment. A huge thank you to our staff and families for your encouragement and support—it truly makes a difference in helping our children flourish and caring about the world around them.

Looking ahead, please remember that school will be closed on Monday 4th May 2026 as it is the Early May Bank Holiday. We look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 5th May 2026.

Warm regards,

 Ms. A Thakore

Magical Moments

Every two weeks, we take time to celebrate the Magical Moments happening across our school — those special sparks of curiosity, creativity, and deep learning that make each day meaningful. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Avanti Fields is all about.

We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!

🌱 Growing Together: A Week of Gardening and Earth Day Fun 🌍

The children thoroughly enjoyed their gardening sessions led by the PTFA this week. The primary children spent time improving the Primary playground planters by planting a variety of plants and fruits, which they can now care for and watch grow.

Each child has also planted a sunflower seed, which they will nurture at school before bringing home to continue to look after. We wonder who will grow the biggest sunflower! 🌻

The PTFA kindly sourced the plants and established valuable community links with Asda and Sainsburys. A representative joined one of the sessions, enjoying time planting with the children and sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm.

A big thank you to the PTFA for organising this fantastic week and to all the members of the PTFA who volunteered. Everyone had a wonderful time taking part, alongside other Earth Day activities that helped raise awareness about caring for our planet.

Rights Respecting School information

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles.

Rights Respecting School information

Rights Respecting Article of the week: Earth Day 2026 – Article 6 and 24

Earth Day takes place every year on April 22 to show support for the protection of the environment and our planet.

Why it matters:

Earth Day matters because it highlights the importance of protecting the environment so people—especially children—can live healthy and safe lives. It links to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, as Article 6 states that every child has the right to life and development, which can be harmed by environmental damage, and Article 24 says children have the right to good health, including clean water and a safe environment. This shows that caring for the Earth helps protect children’s rights and their future.

At home activity:

Take a look at the Earth Day website. Write an article for your school newsletter or create a video to ask as many families as possible to participate in Earth Day 2023. Explain why this is important and how this links to children’s rights and your work as a Rights Respecting School.
