Head of Secondary's Message

This week, we were delighted to welcome our new Year 6 students for their Transition Day. It was wonderful to see so many excited faces as they experienced life at Avanti Fields School for the first time. We also enjoyed welcoming parents and carers at the end of the day to share the next steps in their child's educational journey. We look forward to officially welcoming our new Year 7 cohort on Monday 24^th August.

Our English Writing Workshops have continued to be a great success this term, providing students with additional opportunities to develop their confidence and strengthen their writing skills. It has been fantastic to see so many students engaging positively with these sessions and making excellent progress. Thank you to Mrs Bail for organising such a fantastic initiative to support our English curriculum.

Our Year 9 students have been enjoying an unforgettable residential visit to Plas Gwynant. From climbing mountains and exploring slate mines to canoeing on the beautiful lakes in Wales, students have embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, resilience and teamwork. Staff have been incredibly proud of the way they have represented the school, consistently demonstrating the Avanti values throughout the week. Experiences such as these play a vital role in developing confidence, independence and lasting friendships. A huge thank you to Mr Clarke for organising this phenomenal annual residential and to Mr Backhouse, Mrs Kansara and Miss Bhoobun for supporting Mr Clarke on this residential.

As families begin preparing for the new academic year, we would be grateful for your support with our school uniform donation initiative. If your child has any items of school uniform that are in good, clean condition but are no longer needed, we would be delighted to receive them. Donations can be dropped off at the school reception throughout next week and will help support other families within our school community. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

A reminder to parents and carers of students in Year 9 studying GCSE Combined Science to purchase the Combined Science Revision Guide via Arbor Pay if you have not already done so. Once payment has been received, the Science department will distribute the revision guide directly to your child, ensuring they have an excellent resource to support their GCSE studies.

Finally, a reminder that school will finish early on Friday 10^th July, with students leaving site at 3.00pm. Students will spend the final part of the afternoon with their tutors, reflecting on the many achievements and memorable moments from the academic year before the end of term.

As we approach the final week of the academic year, I would like to thank our entire school community for another wonderful year. We look forward to celebrating our students' achievements over the coming days and ensuring they finish the year with happy memories and a strong sense of belonging within the Avanti Fields family.

Staffing updates for the new academic year

As we prepare for the new academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank those colleagues who are leaving Avanti Fields School, as well as those taking on different roles within our school community. Whether beginning an exciting new chapter in their careers or enjoying a well-earned retirement, we are incredibly grateful for their commitment and the positive contributions they have made to Avanti Fields School. We wish them every success and happiness in the future.

In addition, I am pleased to confirm that Miss Bigginton will be leading our Pastoral provision and will continue in her role as our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Bigginton for her commitment, care and dedication in leading our Inclusion provision. Her unwavering support for our students, families and wider school community has made a significant difference, and we are incredibly grateful for her continued leadership.

I would also like to congratulate Mr Khabra on his appointment as our Assistant Principal for Personal Development and Enrichment. In this role, he will continue to strengthen and further develop our PSHE education, Careers, and Enrichment provision, ensuring our students benefit from a broad and enriching educational experience.

Art Department Update

Year 10 Gateway Art Show

Our Year 10 GCSE Art Students got the opportunity to visit Gateway’s end of year Art show, where they were able to witness what Art would look like In College, as well as the wide variety of Art Courses that Gateway have to offer. Our Year 10 Students have been inspired by the art that we saw as part of the show and even got to talk with current gateway staff/students about the courses that they offer and what they consist of. What a fantastic experience for our students!

Nora’s 104^th Birthday!

Recently our students were able to take part in an act of kindness to the community. A care home got in touch with the Art department as they wanted to make the wish of one of their residents come true. We received the task to create 104 Birthday Cards for one of their residents, Nora, as this was one of her birthday wishes as well as wanting to ride in a Tank (which she also managed to do). In total we created a HUGE 125 birthday cards for Nora, in total she received 260 Birthday cards from people across the whole of the UK. Without our students kindness and respect, we would have never been able to achieve this!

Year 10 Final Pieces

Our Year 10s has been working very hard on their final pieces for their first GCSE Project! They have done a fantastic job - Well done to all our students.

Ratha Yatra

Our school community recently came together to celebrate the vibrant festival of Ratha Yatra, one of the most important festivals in the ISKCON tradition. Ratha Yatra commemorates the journey of Lord Jagannath, along with his brother Baladeva and sister Subhadra, from the temple to the streets, symbolising the Lord's desire to be accessible to everyone. The day was filled with devotion, culture, and joy as students and staff participated in a traditional chariot procession, accompanied by uplifting kirtan singing. Students showcased their talents and impressed the audience with their skilled tabla playing. They also had the opportunity to experience a classical dance performance, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The celebration provided a meaningful opportunity for our school community to come together in a spirit of gratitude and cultural understanding, making it a truly memorable occasion involved.

Support Our School Council's First Ever Stall

Join Us at the School Mela – Saturday 5^th July

We are delighted to invite all parents, carers, families, staff and members of our local community to our upcoming School Mela, organised by our fantastic PTFA, on Saturday 5^th July.

The Mela promises to be a wonderful celebration of our school community, culture and creativity, with plenty of activities, stalls and opportunities to support both the school and local charities.

We are especially excited that our School Council will be running their very first fundraising stall. Our pupils have been working hard to create and source a range of beautiful handcrafted items made from recycled and repurposed saris, including:

Not only are these items unique and sustainable, but every purchase will help support causes that are important to our pupils.

Raising Money for Charity

Funds raised from the School Council stall will be shared between three charities chosen by our pupils:

Global Hindu Federation

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop leadership, enterprise and community engagement skills whilst making a positive difference to others.

Think you can come up with the perfect name? Take part in our fun "Name the Bear" competition for the chance to win a prize and help raise even more money for charity.

Don't miss the opportunity to bid in our Silent Auction for a stunning handmade crocheted baby blanket. Lovingly crafted, this beautiful item would make a wonderful gift for a new arrival or a treasured keepsake.

Summer Mela

The PTFA is delighted to announce our upcoming School Mela!

We warmly invite you to support us in making this a fun and memorable day for everyone. There will be a variety of stalls and exciting entertainment for children, including a funfair, as well as fire brigade and police demonstrations. A selection of food and ice cream will also be available.

All proceeds from the event will go directly back to supporting the school. We hope to see you there with your family and friends!
