Head of Primary's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a wonderful few weeks it has been at Avanti! It has been a real pleasure to see how quickly our children have settled into their new classes and begun building those important, positive relationships with their new teachers and classmates. The calm, purposeful atmosphere around the school is a credit to our pupils, staff and families, and we are incredibly proud of how well everyone has embraced the new academic year.
Year 1 Reading and Phonics Workshop
On Tuesday 15th September at 3.00pm, we will be holding our Year 1 Reading and Phonics Workshop for all Year 1 parents and carers.
This is a very important session that will help you understand how you can support your child to achieve their full potential in reading. We will also explain the Government's Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, what it involves and how you can help your child develop the confidence and skills they need to be successful.
Once you have collected your child at the end of the school day, please make your way to the school office to sign in for the workshop. We look forward to welcoming you and working together to support your child's reading journey.
Parents' Evenings
Our first Parents' Evenings of the academic year will take place on Monday 6th October and Wednesday 8th October.
These meetings are an important opportunity to meet with your child's class teacher, discuss how your child has settled into their new class, celebrate their successes and ask any questions you may have. Teachers will also share your child's next steps in learning and provide practical advice on how you can support learning at home.
Appointments will be available to book via Arbor, with bookings opening on Monday 14th September- 8:00am until Monday 28th September 15:00pm
Please note that on Tuesday 6th October and Thursday 8th October, the school day will finish at 2.30pm for all children, unless your child is attending a pre-booked after-school club. Thank you for making the necessary arrangements for collection on these days.

Expectations around Car Park at school site
Dear Parents and Carers,
A reminder of our expectations around car park use at the start and end of the school day.
We appreciate that the weather and other circumstances presents some additional challenges, and we fully understand the importance of ensuring children arrive at school safely. However we have noticed significant congestion in the car park and the road leading to the school both during morning drop-off and afternoon collection times. Please be advised this impacts staff entering and leaving the school.
To help keep everyone safe and to ensure the smooth running of the school day, we kindly ask families to continue with their usual drop-off and collection routines (ONLY pre-school - Year 1 parents permitted to use the school car park for drop off and collection). In particular, we strongly encourage the continued use of park-and-stride arrangements, rather than attempting to drive into the school car park, turning into Bhaktivedanta Marg or attempting 3-point turns on the roads leading to the school.
Thank you, as always, for your cooperation and ongoing support in keeping our school community safe.

Summer Reading Challenge

Cool Milk
If your child is aged 5 or above and you are opting into paying for milk, please call and register with Cool Milk. Details for them were shared within your Induction Packs before the summer holidays. Once you have registered, Cool Milk will inform us and deliver the correct amount of milk cartons. Many thanks.
Lunchtimes
A reminder that from Monday 14th September, children will be able to make their own food choices at lunchtime in the dinner hall. Please read the communication sent by the Administration Team yesterday.
Year 3 and 4 update – Olex AI
We will be continuing to use Olex.AI in our English lessons. This is something the current Year 4 children trialled last academic year and it had a great impact on pupil engagement when writing.
Olex.AI supports teachers when assessing student writing and provides individual feedback based on their age and the genre of writing. When writing narrative texts, it even generates an image to represent what the child has written. It forms an important part of our editing process and is something which has been embedded within our English lessons over the last few months.
There is nothing required of parents or children – teachers will use technology to upload each child’s work and will print their individualised feedback to share with children. You may see this in your child’s book – we found that they were keen to show parents their work during Parents’ Evening appointments.
The use of Olex AI forms part of the Trust's normal teaching and learning activities and is covered by the lawful basis of Public Task, namely providing educational support.
WOW Travel News
Our pupils were excited to attend our WOW re-launch assembly where we found out that we will be starting up our WOW Walk to school travel tracker again next week. Year 1- Year 4 pupils will be taking part this academic year in keeping active on your travel to school and looking after our environment. The aim is to walk, park and stride (at least 10 minutes away from school), scoot or ride a bike etc. at least two times a week in order to achieve a badge at the end of each month. Badges can be pinned onto school bags but NOT school uniform.
Even Strider came to greet us in assembly to get us all excited for a great year ahead!

Global World Record in Dance
We are extremely proud of Ishika (Year 4 – Ash), Riddhi (Year 3 – Chestnut) and Dhun (Year 2 – Daffodil) for contributing to an official Global World Record (GWR) for the Longest Shiva-Themed Bharatanatyam Classical Repertoire. Through their dedication, discipline, enthusiasm and artistic commitment, Ishika, Riddhi and Dhun became part of a historic 17-minute Bharatanatyam tribute to Lord Shiva, which was presented in London on 6 September 2026. This prestigious achievement has been officially recognised and verified by GWR Global World Record, celebrating the valuable contribution of the participants towards preserving and promoting the timeless beauty of Indian classical dance and cultural heritage. Mrs Mehta from Dhun Dance Academy, who is the girls’ Bharatanatyam teacher, is incredibly proud of all three students just as we are. She has had the pleasure of seeing the girls develop their confidence, discipline and love for the art form. Their willingness to learn, practise and perform with dedication has made this achievement particularly special. It is also a great opportunity to celebrate their involvement in promoting Indian culture and heritage through classical dance.
Rights Respecting School information
Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles.
Article 3- Children have the right to be considered in all matters and decisions that affect them.
Article 3 reminds us that when adults make decisions that affect children, they should always think about what is best for the child. Adults should make sure that children are safe, healthy, happy, and supported, and that their needs and wellbeing are carefully considered. As we learn about this Article, we can understand that children’s wellbeing should always be important. Duty bearers should think carefully about how these decisions will affect children and what will help them to grow, learn, and feel safe.
Why it’s important: It helps children understand that their safety and wellbeing matter. It reminds adults to think carefully about how decisions affect children. It encourages children to talk about what helps them feel safe, happy, and supported. It helps children understand that different children may have different needs. It teaches children that decisions should be made with care, kindness, and fairness. Thinking about children’s best interests helps create safe and supportive families, schools, and communities.
At Home Activity: Create a “What’s Best for Me?” Wellbeing Shield Draw and cut out a large shield shape on a piece of paper. Divide the shield into four sections. In each section, draw or write something that helps you to feel safe, happy, healthy, and supported. In the centre of the shield, write: “My best interest’s matter, and I deserve to be safe, happy, healthy, and supported.
