Primary Parent's Bulletin 19.06.26

Head of Primary's Message

Dear Parents and carers,

What a busy 2 weeks it has already been here at Avanti Fields. Firstly, our Year 1 children completed their Phonics Screening Check last week with such confidence and positivity. We are so proud of them and the hard work and effort they all put into completing this reading task. This week, all the children from Pre-School to Year 3 have enjoyed taking part in various activities linked to Science Week. They especially enjoyed visiting the turtles and tortoise brought in by Miss Savadia and Miss Solgama. Today, the school was full of children and adults dressed up as scientists and nature– what an amazing sight to see. Further details can be found below in the bulletin.

Warm regards,

 Ms. A Thakore

Magical Moments

Every two weeks, we take time to celebrate the Magical Moments happening across our school — those special sparks of curiosity, creativity, and deep learning that make each day meaningful. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Avanti Fields is all about.

We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!

Ratha Yatra

Festival of Chariots – Jagannath Ratha Yatra

We are delighted to inform you that we will be celebrating the Festival of Chariots, Jagannath Ratha Yatra, on Wednesday, 24th June 2026.

Ratha Yatra is one of the oldest street festivals in the world. On this special day, children will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the spiritual and festive atmosphere by singing kirtan and helping to pull Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra in a beautifully decorated chariot.

Children are invited to come to school dressed in traditional or smart clothing. This will be a drop-down day, where children will take part in a range of engaging activities linked to Lord Jagannath.

Special Lunch

A special festive meal will be provided for all children, so there is no need to book a school lunch for Wednesday 24th June. The menu will be as follows:

  • Paneer Tikka Masala and Naan

  • Protein Pasta Bake

  • Halwa

  • Samosa and Chutney

  • Far Far

  • Salad and Pickles

Flowers and Fruit Offerings

We warmly invite families to contribute fresh flowers and fruits as offerings. These will be used during a special puja with the children, to decorate the chariot, and will then be distributed as prasadam.

Please send any offerings into school on Wednesday 24th June 2026 on the morning of the celebration.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Science Week 2026

What a fantastic Science Week we have had! Children across Preschool to Year 2 enjoyed a range of exciting activities, including nature trails, rainbow experiments, friction investigations and live drawing sessions. A particular highlight for many children was using their scientific observation skills to carefully study and draw a real tortoise and turtles (Thank you Miss Savadia and Miss Solgama), paying close attention to shapes, patterns and textures.

A huge thank you to our Secondary Science Department for providing Year 3 with an engaging Science Fair.

The children loved taking part in hands-on activities and demonstrations linked to scientific exploration and discovery, which inspired lots of curiosity and excitement.  They particularly enjoyed making balancing birds and using microscopes to explore tiny details they cannot normally see, which inspired lots of curiosity and excitemen

We were also wowed by the creativity and imagination shown during our Science Dress Up Day. Thank you to all families for your support in helping children create such fantastic science-themed costumes.

Please enjoy the gallery below featuring our winning costumes.

School Council Update

School Council Members Visit Primary Assembly

We were excited to welcome four members of the Secondary School Council to our primary assembly recently.

The students told us all about what it means to be a School Council representative and how they help make positive changes around the school. They explained how they listen to their classmates’ ideas, work together as a team and help make sure students’ voices are heard.

Our primary pupils listened carefully and asked lots of thoughtful questions about the School Council and how they could get involved in the future. The secondary students shared some of the skills they have developed in their roles, including teamwork, communication and leadership.

It was a fantastic opportunity for pupils from different parts of the school to learn from one another and share their experiences. The visit inspired many of our primary pupils to think about how they can contribute to their school community.

A big thank you to our Secondary School Council members for taking the time to visit us and for being such positive role models. Well done to our Primary School Councillors for their thoughtful questions which they had pre-prepared.

Summer Reading Challenge 2026

This year the summer reading challenge within the Leicester Libraries is to 'Read to the Beat'. Why not take your child or children and register them at your local library? The more books children borrow and read over the summer, the more they will develop their love and passion for reading. And the school with the most readers taking part in the reading challenge will be in for a chance of winning £100 to purchase books for their library. Our children will be sent home with a free bookmark from Leicester Libraries for the Summer Reading Challenge on Friday 26th June. The challenge runs from 27th June to 13 September, so let's get reading.

Rights Respecting School information

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles.

Rights Respecting School information

Article 13 – Freedom of Expression (Week 1)

Every child has the right to express their thoughts, ideas and feelings freely through speaking, writing, drawing or any other form of communication, as long as it does not harm others.

Why it matters: Article 13 helps children develop confidence and a sense of voice. When children are encouraged to share their ideas, they feel valued and respected. In school, this supports learning, creativity and positive relationships.

At home activity: Create a “My Voice Matters” piece. This could be a drawing, short story, poem or poster about something your child cares about (e.g. kindness, the environment, friendship). Encourage them to explain their ideas and why they are important.

 Message from Children's Commissioner England

Children’s Commissioner would like to conduct national survey to capture student views. Students are encouraged to take part in national survey. Please see below link.

The more pupils who participate from school, the more accurately their experiences, views and aspirations will be reflected in the national picture that will help shape future policy.

At a time of significant change for children and young people, it is more important than ever that their views are reflected in policymaking. Through this survey, they can take the voices of  students directly to the centre of government.

Student champions who generate particularly high levels of participation will receive a formal thank you from office of Children’s Commissioner for England to recognising their contribution to amplifying young people’s voices.

Schools and colleges with the highest response levels will be invited to attend final Festival of Childhood, celebrating the voices and contributions of children and young people from across England.
