Primary Parent's Bulletin 22.05.26

Head of Primary's Message

Dear Parents and carers,

As we reach the end of this half term, I would like to reflect on what has been a truly vibrant and uplifting period in the life of our school. There has been a real sense of energy and enthusiasm across the weeks, with children embracing every opportunity with positivity and joy.

What has stood out most is the way our pupils have approached each experience with confidence, curiosity, and a willingness to challenge themselves. Whether through collaborative events, enriching visits, or special themed days, they have shown a maturity and spirit that reflects the very best of our school values and the Avanti Way.

I would like to give a special mention to our Year 2 pupils, who have shown tremendous perseverance and focus during their KS1 SATs. They approached this period with calm determination and a positive mindset, demonstrating just how much they have grown in both their learning and their character. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.

This half term has been filled with moments that have inspired, engaged and brought our community together. These experiences play such an important role in developing confident, well-rounded individuals, and it is a privilege to see our pupils flourish in this way.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I wish you all a restful and enjoyable half term break.

Warm regards,

 Ms. A Thakore

Govinda's New menu Provision ( School Lunch)

Dear Parents and Carers,

We would like to let you know that Govinda’s will be trialling a number of new menu items over the coming weeks. These will be introduced in phases, allowing us to test and refine dishes before any wider rollout.

This forms part of our ongoing work to align with the proposed updates to School Food Standards, ensuring that our menus continue to promote healthy eating and support pupils’ wellbeing.

As part of this, the updated approach places greater emphasis on:

  • Increasing the variety of vegetables and wholegrains within meals

  • Reducing added sugars and limiting foods high in fat and salt

  • Providing balanced meals that support sustained energy and concentration throughout the school day

  • Encouraging healthier food choices through menu design and presentation

All meals will continue to be:

  • Freshly prepared on site

  • Nutritious and balanced

  • Fully vegetarian in line with the school’s food ethos

The purpose of these trials is to introduce new dishes, gather feedback from pupils, and ensure that our menus remain both enjoyable and nutritionally appropriate. There will be no disruption to the lunch provision, and all pupils will continue to receive a full and balanced meal each day.

As part of this process, we welcome feedback. If you would like to share any comments, please contact us at keepintouch@govindas.com.

Thank you for your continued support.

Magical Moments

Every two weeks, we take time to celebrate the Magical Moments happening across our school — those special sparks of curiosity, creativity, and deep learning that make each day meaningful. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Avanti Fields is all about.

We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!

Sunflower

Sunflowers have been creating silhouette safari animal landscapes by practising our cutting skills and using our fingers to mix colours and design beautiful background scenes.

Preschool

Preschool have been learning about positional language. The pig is ‘under’ the bridge.

Reception

Reception Clas shave had a wonderful time creating seed balls to feed wild birds. We have been learning about how we can take care of animals in our world. They are excited to take their seed balls home.

Year 1

Year 1 have loved watching their sunflowers grow and change over the last few weeks. The children are very excited to bring them home this week and continue caring for them! 🌻

Year 2

Year 2 have been learning all about instructions this week… and we decided to make some SILLY ones for the teachers to follow exactly! 😂 From funny actions to tricky directions, we had so much fun watching them try their best. Look at all the fun we’ve had!

Year 3

Year 3 had great fun at their trip to the Jewry Wall Museum where they learnt lots of interesting facts about the Romans and the history of the Jewry Wall. They learnt all about Roman life and even got to dress up in traditional clothing!

 Science week

Week commencing 15th June, we will be celebrating Science Week! 🔬✨

This will include a special dress-up day to end the week on Friday 19th June, where children are invited to come dressed as a scientist, inventor, or anything science-related.

What will you come as? You could dress as a scientist, astronaut, doctor, robot, animal, or even a planet!  There will also be a best dressed competition for each year group, so get creative!

Throughout the week, we will be taking part in some fun, hands-on science activities, exploring, experimenting, and discovering together.

It’s set to be an exciting week full of curiosity and learning!

School Council Updates

This half term, School Council have been working on creating a Key Messages board to allow children to stay up to date with the key events going on in school! The children have worked hard to make it engaging and inclusive (even using a talking tin to record the key messages for each week). This culminated in the children presenting in assembly on Monday. I have been very impressed with the hard work of all of our councillors – great work!

Rights Respecting School information

Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles.

Rights Respecting School information

Rights Respecting Article of the week: Mental Health Awareness Week – Article 24

Mental Health Awareness Week occurs every year in May and is an ideal time for us all to think about mental health, tackle stigma, and discuss how we can create school environments that protect our mental wellbeing.

Why it matters:

It is important to understand Article 24 and the different types of emotions you have, and to know that it is usual and ok to have times when you might feel sad or worried.

At-home activity:

It’s ok to have different feelings and moods, and talking about them links to your right to freedom of expression. Learn what the different colours mean in the ‘Zones of Regulation’. How can you get back to green if you are in a different zone? Create your own Zones Bookmark to remind you of techniques that work for you.
