Head of Secondary's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

Last week our Year 10 students had a fantastic opportunity to visit the Botanical Gardens as part of a Discovery Day hosted by the University of Leicester. Students took part in a range of hands-on activities and demonstrations, alongside guided garden tours, giving them the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom and experience Science in a different context. Thank you to Mrs R Patel for organising this valuable super-curricular opportunity and for continuing to provide experiences which enrich our students’ learning.

Our Year 11 mock examinations are currently running smoothly, and we have been pleased with the mature and purposeful approach students have shown so far. These examinations are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their current knowledge, identify areas for further development and prepare for the demands of their final GCSE examinations. We would be grateful for your continued support at home during this important period. Please encourage your child to maintain a consistent revision routine, stay organised and prepare fully for each examination. It is also important that students arrive at school on time each day, fully equipped and in full school uniform, so that they are able to approach their examinations calmly and confidently.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership.

Warm regards

Ms N Kholia

Car parking

We kindly ask parents to cooperate in parking safely and responsibly during drop off and pick up times.

Recently we have noticed an increase in congestion and inconsiderate parking around school gates along with Bhaktivedanta Marg which creates a serious safety risk for our pupils and wider community.

To help keep everyone safe and to ensure the smooth running of the school day, we kindly ask families to continue with their usual drop-off and collection routines (ONLY pre-school - Year 2 parents permitted to use the school car park for drop off and collection). In particular, we strongly encourage the continued use of park-and-stride arrangements, rather than attempting to drive into the school car park, turning into Bhaktivedanta Marg or attempting 3-point turns on the roads leading to the school.

Thank you for your cooperation and ongoing support in keeping our school community safe.

Calendar Updates

  • Tuesday 6th October: Y8 Black Country Museum trip

  • Thursday 8th October: Y7 Meet the Tutors Evening (16:00 – 19:00) - Main hall at Avanti FIelds School

Dear Parents / Carers

As we enter the GCSE mock exam season, we would like to inform you of some important expectations regarding student behaviour, particularly in and around the PE corridor and changing rooms.

The changing rooms are directly connected to the main sports hall, where all GCSE mock exams are taking place. To ensure our centre remains fully compliant with JCQ examination regulations and to provide our Year 11 students with the quiet, respectful environment they deserve, it is essential that all students follow the behaviour expectations that have been clearly and explicitly communicated to them.

Students must not communicate with others at any point along the PE corridor or while in the changing rooms. Sound easily carries through to the sports hall and any noise can disrupt exams, potentially compromising the exam conditions for those sitting them.

Please note that:

  • Any student who communicates in these areas will be issued with a C3.

  • These rules are in place throughout the exam season and are non-negotiable.

  • Students are reminded to show self-discipline and respect for those currently sitting exams - your child will be experience sitting their GCSEs in future exam seasons and would appreciate the same level of respect.

We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing this message at home, helping students understand the importance of maintaining a quiet and respectful environment during this critical period.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

PE department

Leicester University Botanical Gardens Discovery Day

On Thursday 24th September, Leicester University hosted a Chemistry and Biology discovery day at the Botanical Gardens. Avanti Fields School were able to secure 60 places for year 10 students. The day was action packed with scientific activities, demonstrations, and garden tours. Pupils worked in small groups to build molecular models, extra DNA from fruits, engage in a workshop on the hidden power of foods. The garden tours allowed the pupils to explore and lean how a variety of plants grow in the glasshouses and outside, it was wonderful to see the variety of foods growing. The medicinal garden enabled them to see the multiple bioactive compounds in plants and their uses in traditional medicine. Everyone was treated to some mango sorbet, frozen in front of us with liquid nitrogen.

“Today was very engaging and knowledgeable. I learnt so many new things today and participated in many exciting activities.”  ~ Shreeya R

“Today was an enjoyable day. We watched them make mango sorbet mixed with liquid nitrogen. It tasted delicious. We also got to experience the importance of nature and plants.” ~ Shruti K

“We loved being connected to nature. We got to see a variety of fruit and veg and cactus growing in the outside World Food Garden. We also explored the outdoor medicinal plant garden – so many cures in nature.” ~ Y10

School Games Gold Mark Award 2025-26

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success. We have achieved the Gold School Games Mark for a second year now.

With a total of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

Exciting Reading News!

We are delighted to launch our first reading initiative of the year and can't wait to share it with you!

To help create a vibrant reading culture across the school, students and staff will be using chalk pens on our classroom doors/ windows to display what they are currently reading. From gripping novels and inspiring biographies to fascinating non-fiction texts, our classroom doors will become mini reading showcases for everyone to enjoy.

This simple but powerful initiative is designed to spark conversations about books, encourage reading recommendations, and celebrate reading as a community. We hope our students will be inspired to pick up something new after seeing what others are enjoying!
