Secondary Parents' Bulletin 16.10.26
Head of Secondary's Message
Dear Parents and Carers
As we come to the end of a very full and productive first half term, I would like to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and partnership. The first half term is always one of the busiest in our school calendar, with a packed programme of parents’ information evenings, Open Evening, Meet the Tutor Evening, careers fairs, trips and much more. It has been wonderful to see our school community come together for these events, and I am grateful to our staff, students and families for helping to make them such positive and successful occasions. The warmth, care and commitment that define Avanti Fields continue to shine through in all that we do.
We have also enjoyed some exciting opportunities beyond the classroom. On Tuesday, ten of our music students had the privilege of participating in the Steinway & Sons Pop-Up Day at Ratcliffe College. The day included a masterclass for our pianists, an inspirational talk and a tour of the college. Experiences such as these allow our students to develop their talents, broaden their horizons and gain inspiration from new opportunities.
Looking ahead to next half term, we are very much looking forward to celebrating Diwali and Govardhan Puja as a school community. Our Diwali and Govardhan Puja Festival Day will take place on Tuesday 3rd November, and students are warmly invited to attend school in traditional dress to mark this special occasion. We look forward to celebrating the festival of light together and reflecting on the values of hope, goodness and the triumph of light over darkness.
Please also note that our Ethos INSET Day will take place on Friday 6th November. School will be closed to all students on this day while staff take part in professional development linked to our shared ethos and values. In addition, school will be closed on Monday 9th November to celebrate Govardhan Puja. We appreciate your support in noting these important dates in your family calendars.
As we approach the half-term break, I hope all our students and families have the opportunity to rest, recharge and enjoy quality time together. Thank you once again for your continued support and for being such an important part of the Avanti Fields community.
I wish you all a restful and enjoyable half-term break, and hope all those celebrating enjoy the last few nights of Navratri. I look forward to welcoming our students back for an exciting and purposeful next half term.
Warm regards
Ms N Kholia
Diwali and Govardhan PujaCelebration
On Tuesday 3rd November, we will be celebrating Diwali and Govardhan Puja at school. Diwali, the Festival of Lights, celebrates the victory of good over evil, while Govardhan Puja reminds us of the importance of gratitude, devotion and caring for the world around us.
Students are warmly invited to wear traditional or festival attire for the day. Please note the following expectations:
This is not a non-uniform day. Students should either wear appropriate festival/traditional attire or attend in full school uniform (blazer, shirt, tie and lanyard).
Students who choose not to wear festival attire must wear their full school uniform.
Hoodies and other prohibited school items are not permitted.
All students must wear their lanyards, as these are required to help ensure a smooth lunchtime service.
Throughout the day, students will enjoy a variety of activities to mark the occasion, as well as a special festive feast.

Y7 Twycross Zoo trip
It was superb to see the Y7 students' excitement and enthusiasm towards the Twycross Zoo trip on Friday 2nd October. The students engaged really well during the Learning Workshop, where they learnt about Animal Conservation and protecting endangered species. Overall, it was an enjoyable day for them to see the wide range of amazing animals and insects at Twycross.
Steinway & Sons Pop-Up Piano Day at Ratcliffe College
We were delighted to invite ten of our talented student pianists to take part in the Steinway & Sons Pop-Up Day at Ratcliffe College on Tuesday 13th October. The students enjoyed a truly inspirational day, which included an engaging talk from music professionals, an insightful Steinway masterclass, and the exciting opportunity to perform on world-class Steinway pianos as well as a college tour. Throughout the day, our students represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating maturity, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for music. They were a real credit to themselves, their families and our school community.
A special mention goes to Samyucthaa, Vanshni and Hanaya, who showed outstanding courage and character by performing in front of students from other schools and professional musicians. They also asked thoughtful and insightful questions, making the most of this unique learning opportunity.
We are incredibly grateful to Ratcliffe College for their warm welcome and hospitality, and to the Steinway team for delivering such an enriching and memorable experience. It was an inspirational day that has left our students motivated, encouraged and excited to continue their musical journeys.
European Day of Languages

Our students enthusiastically took part in this year’s European Day of Languages activities, creating vibrant posters that celebrated linguistic diversity. The collection of posters have been submitted to the European Commission’s competition, showcasing our school’s commitment to cultural awareness and language learning.
All participating students have been awarded R2 Achievement Points for their contribution and teamwork. A huge well done to everyone involved for making this celebration such a success!
KS4 Table Tennis Team Match Report
Yesterday evening, our Key Stage 4 boys table tennis team travelled to Judgemeadow to compete in a highly competitive tournament, producing some fantastic performances and narrowly missing out on the top spot.
Representing Avanti Fields were Yogi, Dishan, Jwalin and Tanish, who got off to a flying start against Soar Valley B. All four boys won their opening singles matches convincingly, securing an emphatic 4–0 victory!
Next up was Soar Valley A, but despite facing a different and stronger-looking opposition, the result remained the same! All four boys stepped up once again, demonstrating excellent skill, composure and determination to secure another outstanding 4–0 win.
With two convincing victories under our belts, the stage was set for a thrilling final showdown against our biggest rivals, Judgemeadow. With both teams battling for the tournament title, the tension was high as the two strongest sides went head-to-head!
A truly nail-biting contest followed with both teams producing some excellent table tennis. After four closely fought singles matches, the score was locked at 2–2 and with nothing separating the teams on matches won, the tournament winners had to be decided on a countback of individual games won (similar to goal difference in football).
Agonisingly, Avanti Fields missed out on the title by the narrowest of margins, having lost just one more game than Judgemeadow. Despite this, the boys could hold their heads high, finishing as thoroughly deserving runners-up after an outstanding tournament!
Excitingly, all four boys are currently in Year 10, meaning they will be eligible to compete in the same age category again next year. With continued practice, training and determination, they have every chance of returning even stronger and going one step further to lift the trophy in 2027!
A huge well done to Yogi, Dishan, Jwalin and Tanish for their fantastic performances, excellent sportsmanship and for representing Avanti Fields so amazingly! Please congratulate these boys if you see them in school today.

🎄 Avanti Fields Joint Christmas Card Fundraising Project
This Christmas, our Avanti Fields Primary and Secondary schools are joining together for a special fundraising project! Pupils are invited to create their own Christmas artwork on A4 paper, which can then be turned into personalised Christmas cards and other gifts featuring their own designs.
To take part, simply visit mycardproject.com/order, enter the code MCP6WQ, upload the child's artwork and share the link with friends and family so they can purchase cards and other items featuring the pupil's design. Please note that artwork must be uploaded and orders placed before November.
A percentage of the proceeds will be donated back to the schools. The Secondary School will use its share to support our chosen charities: The Local Goshalla, Action for Children and The Global Hindu Federation, while the Primary School will use its proceeds towards their chosen charity. This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to showcase their creativity while helping to raise money for our schools and wider community.
