Head of Secondary's Message

The school year has started really positively, with a strong focus on expectations and routines to help students thrive. Thank you for supporting these at home – it makes a real difference. We would also like to remind families of the importance of following our uniform policy, particularly with regards to purchasing the correct school shoes. Trainers, or footwear resembling trainers, are not permitted. This helps us to maintain high standards and consistency across the school. 


Today we welcome our Year 11 families to our Parents’ Information Evening. Next week we look forward to meeting Year 9 and Year 10 parents on Tuesday 8th September and Year 7 and 8 parents on Thursday 10th September. These sessions are a great way to share updates and priorities for each year group, and to strengthen the important partnership between school and home. 

A reminder that our Secondary Open Evening is on Tuesday 22nd September (16:00-19:30). We look forward to showcasing the brilliant work of our students and staff.

Avanti Fields Secondary Open Evening - 22nd September 2026

We are delighted to welcome you to our upcoming Open Evening — a fantastic opportunity to learn more about our school, meet our staff, and see what makes our community unique.

  • A presentation from the Executive Principal and Head of Secondary, giving you key insights into our vision, values, and what you can expect from life at our school.

  • The opportunity to meet our teachers and staff across various departments, ask questions, and learn about our curriculum and support systems. o

  • An oportunity to learn more about our school, meet our staff, and see what makes our community unique.


    Important Information for Attendees:

    • Booking: Please ensure you book 1 ticket only, in the name of the Year 7 applicant/student via Eventbrite. This ticket covers the student and 2 parents or guardians.

    • Attendance Policy: To ensure we can accommodate all visitors safely and comfortably, we kindly request that only parents/guardians attends with the student. Extended family members will not be permitted to attend.

    • Parking: Limited parking is available on-site. Additional parking can be found at Tesco Hamilton, which is within walking distance of the school.

    • Arrival Time: Please arrive promptly at the time of your booked session, as late arrivals may miss key parts of the presentation or tour.

New beginnings for Year 7 – Practising kindness the Avanti Way

Our Year 7 students have made an inspirational start to their new journey at Avanti Fields by putting one of our important values into action – practising gratitude.

Starting a new secondary school can be exciting, but it is not always easy. Meeting new people, finding your place and developing new friendships can take time. Through the Gratitude Club, students were encouraged to think about how small acts of kindness can help someone feel welcomed, included and valued.

More than 30 heartfelt Gold Leaves were written by Year 7 students, sharing actions they will take to support others and help everyone feel included. Many students wrote that they would invite someone who is alone to join their friendship group, check in with someone who may be feeling left out, start a conversation, listen to them and take positive action to help them feel more included and empowered. Their thoughtful responses demonstrated maturity, empathy and a genuine understanding that even a small act of kindness can make a big difference to another person.

The activity also reflected the beautiful friendship of Krishna and Sudama, reminding students that true friendship is built on kindness, loyalty, respect and caring for one another, regardless of circumstances.

As our Year 7 students continue this new chapter, their Gold Leaves are a wonderful reminder that friendships grow when we notice others, reach out and make sure no one feels alone. They also highlight the importance of inclusion for all. The Gold Leaves are proudly displayed on the Gratitude Tree in the library.

By choosing to include others and practising kindness every day, our students are helping to create a school community where everyone feels welcomed, supported and able to develop meaningful friendships.

A big thank you to our Year 7 tutors for continuing to remind students about the Gratitude Club, held every Thursday lunchtime in the library. This is the Avanti Way – practising kindness and helping one another to build a happy, inclusive community.

¡Qué pasada! - Amazing! Wow! 

Barcelona is in north-east Spain. It is famous for the Sagrada Família, a basilica designed by Antoni Gaudí, its beaches and football. In my opinion, it is worth visiting because there is so much to do. Also, Lamine Yamal plays for FC Barcelona. Amazing!

🎵 Instrumental and vocal lessons at Avanti Fields

We are delighted to offer students at Avanti Fields the opportunity to learn a musical instrument or develop their singing skills during the school day.

Learning music is a wonderful way for children to develop confidence, creativity, discipline and resilience. Regular musical practice can also support concentration, memory, listening skills and organisation, which can have a positive impact across their wider learning. Just as importantly, making music can provide pupils with a positive outlet for self-expression, helping to support their wellbeing, confidence and sense of achievement.


We currently offer tuition in a wide range of instruments and styles:

There is something for everyone, whether your child is a complete beginner or already has some musical experience.

How do the lessons work?

Lessons take place during the school day, meaning students do not need to attend additional sessions after school. To minimise disruption to their learning, lessons operate on a half-termly rotating timetable, so students will not continually miss the same curriculum lesson.

Instrumental lessons are a fantastic opportunity for students to develop a skill that they can enjoy throughout their school life and beyond. They may also have the opportunity to perform in school concerts, events and other musical activities as their confidence develops.


Financial Support

We want music tuition to be accessible to as many students as possible. If your child is eligible for Pupil Premium (PP) or Free School Meals (FSM), we may be able to provide a subsidy towards the cost of lessons. Please contact us to discuss this further.

If your child has ever expressed an interest in learning an instrument or developing their singing, we would strongly encourage you to consider this opportunity. You don't need to wait for your child to be "musical" — learning an instrument is how they become musical!

Sanskrit Lessons for Years 7, 8 & 9

We are delighted to announce the introduction of Sanskrit lessons for students in Years 7, 8 and 9 who would like to explore one of the world's oldest and most influential languages on Mondays afterschool..

 

Sanskrit is much more than an ancient language. It is a gateway to India's rich cultural, literary, philosophical and scientific heritage. Learning Sanskrit offers students a range of valuable benefits:

  • Strengthens language skills by developing understanding of grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary and the origins of many Indian languages.

  • Enhances concentration and memory through the study of vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar patterns.

  • Connects students with their heritage by providing direct access to ancient texts, literature, stories, philosophy and traditional knowledge.

  • Supports the learning of other languages as many words and concepts in Indian languages, and even some English words, have connections to Sanskrit.

  • Encourages critical and analytical thinking through its highly structured and logical grammatical system.

  • Fosters an appreciation of literature and culture by introducing timeless works, inspiring stories and influential ideas.

  • Promotes a well-rounded education by broadening cultural awareness while developing communication and language-learning skills.

 

Lessons will introduce students to:

  • Sanskrit vocabulary and everyday expressions

  • The Devanagari script and correct pronunciation

  • Reading and writing in Sanskrit

  • Grammar and sentence formation

  • Sanskrit verses, stories and literature

  • Fascinating aspects of Sanskrit culture and heritage

 

Learning Sanskrit provides students with the opportunity to connect with the past while developing skills that remain valuable today. Whether students are complete beginners or already have some familiarity with Sanskrit, these lessons will offer an engaging, enriching and enjoyable learning experience.

We warmly encourage students to participate and discover the beauty, knowledge and richness of the Sanskrit language.

Gujarati Lessons

We are delighted to announce the introduction of Gujarati language lessons, designed to help students develop practical and confident communication skills in Gujarati.

The lessons will focus on building students’ abilities in speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and sentence formation. Students will gradually develop their language skills through structured activities, conversation practice, reading exercises, and written work.


Learning Gujarati gives students the ability to understand and communicate in another language, while also strengthening their overall language-learning skills. Regular practise in speaking, listening, reading, and writing helps students become more confident and independent users of Gujarati.

Further information and details will be shared after the initial interest form data has been collected. Please note, if there are not viable numbers, we will not be able run the classes.
