Secondary Parents' Bulletin 05.12.25

Head of Secondary's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

Last week we held our annual Awards and Celebration Evening, where we came together to recognise students who have shown exceptional commitment to the Avanti virtues of Educational Excellence, Character Formation, and Spiritual Insight. The event was a joyful celebration of our school community, featuring impressive musical performances from our current students and inspirational speeches from our alumni. It was a proud moment for all involved.

We were equally delighted to see many of our students supporting the PTFA with the annual Tesco food collection. The positive feedback we received highlighted their kindness, maturity, and sense of responsibility; qualities we are proud to see them develop at Avanti Fields.

This term has also seen a range of exciting House competitions, with students embracing the opportunity to take part, challenge themselves, and earn points for their Houses. Their energy and enthusiasm have been wonderful to observe.

Next week marks a busy and exciting end to the term, with our KS3 and KS4 Celebration breakfasts, celebration assemblies, Christmas Jumper day, and a range of festive fundraising events. Please ensure you have read the arrangements for Christmas Jumper Day, and we look forward to raising an impressive amount for our chosen charities together.

Warm regards

Ms N Kholia

Girls in Computing event

ree

The Girls in Computing event on Monday 1st December 2025 was a real success. This was a national initiative to encourage more females into the field of Computing and Computer Science. The aim of this event was to inspire and increase girls' interest in Computer Science. During the session, students explored a range of computing-related careers and salaries, understood current digital threats, and learnt about influential female role models who have made significant contributions to the field of computing and shaped the way we live today.

It was a valuable opportunity for the girls to broaden their understanding of computing and its impact on the modern world and make informed decisions for their GCSE options. The final task was to come up with a new innovative idea using technology that can positively impact our lives and present this idea to the group of 88 girls. The girls worked really well in teams and showed initiative, great IT skills and communication skills. The winning team will receive a £10 amazon voucher each.

Christmas Jumper day arrangements and expectations: Thursday 11th December

  • Students can wear an appropriate Christmas jumper (no need for the blazer, shirt or tie and must wear a t-shirt underneath).

  • Students must wear their school grey trousers/skirts with school shoes.

  • Hoodies and any other banned school items are not permitted

  • Please be reminded students must wear their lanyards (this is important for lunchtime to ensure a smooth lunch service). Traditional Christmas lunch will be served at each lunch queue and light lunch meals queue will also be available.

  • Members of the school council will be coming round form rooms to collect donations before Thursday 11th December. The expected donation is £1. This year the money raised will be split between NSPCC and LOROS.

Bhagavad Gita Jayanti

ree

This week marks Bhagavad Gita Jayanti, a special day celebrated by many Hindu families around the world. It commemorates the moment when the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita were spoken—timeless guidance on duty, resilience, compassion and inner peace.

The Bhagavad Gita is often described as a “manual for life.” Its message encourages young people and adults alike to act with integrity, make positive choices, and stay steady even when challenges arise. Many families observe this day through reflection, reading a favourite verse, or simply taking a moment for gratitude and mindfulness.

At school, we use this opportunity to reinforce the values of self-discipline, respect, and purposeful action, which align closely with the Gita’s messages. It is a meaningful reminder that wisdom from ancient traditions can still support our students’ wellbeing and personal growth today.

Chemistry Spelling Bee competition

We would like to recognise all the students who took part in this term’s Chemistry Spelling Bee. Each of them showed focus, confidence and commitment throughout the competition.

The top three students in every year group who achieved the highest scores were placed first, second and third after a demanding set of subject specific spelling rounds.

The art department would love to celebrate the work of Khushi D  (7 Water) who has shown us the beautiful work she creates at home as well as working very hard in lessons. Well done Khushi!

Year 7 Drama

ree

Our Year 7 students have been working hard to develop their understanding of key Drama vocabulary linked to voice and choral speaking. To help commit the words and definitions to memory, they designed vibrant and informative posters that showcase their creativity and commitment. These fantastic examples reflect not only their hard work but also their enthusiasm for learning and collaboration in Drama.

The Eco Group Updates

The ECO group (which is made up of volunteers and Duke of Edinburgh pupils) have been toiling away in the garden this month getting everything ready for next spring. They have cleared out the beds, added new compost and started to plant bulbs ready for the spring. Hopefully come March or April next year we will have fresh flowers such as daffodils, tulips and narcissa that can be put in the worship hall. Our next job is to bed down the beloved strawberry bed to see if we can have a bigger harvest than we did this year.

Before that though, the hyacinths that were planted with the Friday morning garden club, which are starting to sprout in the green house. It will be a surprise to see what colour they bloom, but we are hoping for purple and white.

The school council are again busy at work this half term working on their individual projects.

The Spirituality Committee are organising the first ever podcast from the school where they will be talking about what spirituality means to them as well as interviewing different members of staff to get their opinions.

The Diversity Committee are busy breaking down barriers to help everyone feel valued. Their first event is coming up soon which is focusing on helping the year 7s and 8s make friends and find common ground.

The Eco Committee are planning how to make our environment better for all and achieve ECO Flag status. The younger members of the group will be starting their litter pick initiative soon with volunteers from every form.

TESCO volunteering  by Avanti Students

ree

On Saturday 29th December, students across all year groups volunteered at Tesco to support the food bank. The feedback we received from Tesco and the PTFA was heart warming: ‘The students truly embodied the Avanti Way and made the school proud. We had so many customers comment on how polite and supportive the students were, and Tesco staff were incredibly appreciative as always.’

The PTFA and students were also joined by MP Shivani Raja, who was amazed by the number of Avanti students taking part. She mentioned she had never seen anything like this before. She took the time to speak to many of the students and expressed her sincere appreciation for their efforts.

Thanks to the students’ hard work, we raised over £400 in food bank sales, which is a fantastic achievement. Every student thoroughly enjoyed their time at Tesco, and we are sure the experience will be valuable for their future working lives.
