Head of Secondary's Message
This week, we were delighted to celebrate Gaura Purnima as a school community. Thank you to Mrs Thornton and Ms K Patel for their excellent planning and organisation of the festival day, and to Mr Thornton for supporting with Collective Worship throughout the day. It was wonderful to see so many of our students and staff embracing the celebration, including wearing traditional attire and taking part in the activities.
Next week we will also be marking British Science Week in school. Students will have opportunities to engage with a range of science competitions designed to spark curiosity, creativity and a deeper interest in the world around them.
A reminder to Year 8 parents and carers that the Avanti Quest residential information meeting will take place online on Thursday 12th March at 5:30pm. Please refer to the email that has been sent out which contains the link to join the meeting. Important information will be shared with parents and students to support preparation for this exciting residential experience.
Warm regards
Ms N Kholia

Young People’s views on democracy

On Tuesday 3rd March 2026, we welcomed Chris Pich, Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of Nottingham, who is working on a study with the Electoral Commission about young people’s views on democracy and voting. This is ahead of 16-year-olds being given the vote in time for the next General Election.
Our students shared their views during a detailed interview which will become part of a national study, with their contributions potentially being published in research papers, academic articles, and books. Well done to the below students who represented our school so well with their articulate and knowledgeable contributions!

Workshops by Leicester City Youth Service

As part of the PSHE curriculum, Year 11 and Year 9 will be attending a workshop next week delivered by the Youth Service. The workshops are aimed to educate young people on the laws and effects of knife crime and to develop knowledge and safety. Subjects covered will include joint enterprise and the impact on victims, families and the wider society. We are very excited to welcome the Youth Workers into Avanti Fields and hope that the students find the workshops interact and informative.
The workshops will form part of the usual daily timetable and will not affect start time, break, lunch or home time. Each tutor group will attend 1 x 55-minute session. Workshops are designed to be age appropriate and tailored to each year group.
Workshops and an assembly are also scheduled for other year groups as listed below, and reminders will be sent in due course.
Tuesday 10th March - Assembly for Year 11
Thursday 12th March - Workshops for Year 9
Wednesday 15th April - Workshops for Year 7
Divine Creativity Club: Mandala Creation by students (Y7 & Y8 )

As part of Devine creativity club students of Y7 and Y8 enthusiastically learned about the well-known ancient spiritual art of mandala/rangoli, traditional Indian art forms deeply rooted in culture and symbolism. A mandala represents harmony, unity, and the universe, while rangoli is a decorative art created on floors during festivals to welcome positivity and prosperity. During learnings of mandala/rangoli, art students learned about history, variations of art form, cultural and spiritual significance and science behind the art form.
Inspired by the festive season of Gaura Purnima, the students created stunning mandala design with colourful flowers and peacock feathers ( made out of Foam). The intricate patterns reflected creativity, patience, and an understanding of symmetry and balance. The vibrant floral arrangements combined with the elegance of peacock feathers added beauty and cultural richness to their artwork. The mandala project beautifully blended creativity with cultural learning, making it a meaningful and memorable experience for everyone involved.
