Secondary Parents' Bulletin 12.06.26

Head of Secondary's Message

This week has been another busy and successful one, with many opportunities for our students to learn, grow and enrich their educational experiences beyond the classroom.

A particular highlight was our Year 10 visit to Burghley House. My sincere thanks go to Miss Paik for organising such a wonderful trip in support of the Key Stage 4 History curriculum. Educational visits such as these bring learning to life and help students deepen their understanding of the topics they study in school. We are grateful to all staff who supported the visit and to our students for representing the school so positively.

Our Year 9 students have also benefited from a range of careers-focused activities, including the 'Go to Work with Parent' Day and Enterprise Day. These valuable experiences help students develop a greater understanding of the world of work and begin to consider their future aspirations and pathways.

As we approach the end of the GCSE examination season, I would like to congratulate all of our Year 11 students for the resilience, determination and maturity they have shown throughout the examination period. The final examination takes place next Tuesday with the Spanish Writing paper. We are incredibly proud of the way our students have approached this important milestone and wish them every success as they complete the final stage of their examinations.

Next Wednesday we will celebrate our final Festival Day of the academic year, Ratha Yatra. Festival Days are a special part of life at Avanti Fields School, providing opportunities for reflection, celebration and learning about the rich traditions and values that underpin our community. We look forward to sharing this occasion with our students. Please be reminded students are welcome to come to school in traditional wear next week on Wednesday 17.06.26.

Students in Year 7 had a wonderful opportunity today to participate in a wide range of activities and educational visits designed to broaden their experiences, develop new skills and create lasting memories as part of the Enrichment day. We thank all staff for their hard work in planning these opportunities, inviting external guest and providers to deliver bespoke workshops.

Next Wednesday is also Thank a Teacher Day, providing an opportunity to recognise the dedication and commitment of all the staff who contribute to the success and wellbeing of our students. We are incredibly fortunate to have a team of talented, hardworking and caring professionals who go above and beyond every day to support our young people, both in and beyond the classroom. Whether teaching lessons, providing pastoral care, supporting learning, maintaining our facilities or working behind the scenes to keep the school running smoothly, every member of staff plays an important role in helping our students thrive. On behalf of the school community, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all our staff for their unwavering dedication and the positive difference they make to the lives of our students and families.

Warm regards

Ms N Kholia

House of Lords

Eight Year 10 girls recently had the privilege of attending a special event at the House of Lords, having been invited by Lord Raval OBE. The event, entitled "Carving Your Own Path Beyond Traditional Careers: Stories from Trailblazers", brought together a panel of distinguished speakers who shared their unique career journeys and experiences.

The event was chaired by Major H Morjaria and featured an inspiring line-up of speakers, including Squadron Leader Margaret Welton RAF, Major N Shah, Surgeon Commander M Tayal MBE PhD, and M K. Gill MBE. Drawing on their experiences in the Armed Forces and beyond, the speakers spoke candidly about the paths they had taken to reach their current positions, the challenges they had overcome, and the rewards they have found through their careers.

The students were captivated by the speakers' stories of resilience, determination, and leadership. They gained valuable insights into a wide range of career opportunities that exist beyond traditional pathways and were encouraged to think ambitiously about their own futures.

The event was both inspirational and empowering, highlighting the importance of perseverance, self-belief, and embracing opportunities. It reinforced the message that there are many exciting and diverse career options available to young people today, regardless of background or gender.

Our students represented the school exceptionally well and returned with a renewed sense of confidence and aspiration. We are grateful to Lord Raval OBE for the invitation and for providing such a memorable and thought-provoking experience.

Avanti Sings

Students recently took part in Avanti Sings, a celebration of music, performance and collective participation across the school community. The event provided students with the opportunity to sing together, develop confidence and experience the joy of shared performance.

The project helped promote creativity, teamwork and school spirit, while encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones and take part in a collective musical experience. It was particularly pleasing to see students supporting one another and engaging positively with the performance process.

A huge thank you goes to the staff who supported the event and to the students who participated with such enthusiasm. In particular, Stephanie led the rehearsals throughout the year and supported the singers during their performance, doing a brilliant job of encouraging our students to be at their best!

Year 7 Twin Lakes Trip

Year 7 students recently enjoyed a successful trip to Twin Lakes, giving them the chance to spend time together outside the classroom and take part in a range of fun activities.

The visit supported students’ wider personal development by helping them build friendships, develop independence and strengthen relationships with peers and staff. For many students, it was an important opportunity to experience learning beyond the school site and to create positive memories as part of their first year at secondary school.

Students represented the school well throughout the day, and staff were impressed by their conduct, enthusiasm and willingness to get involved. Thank you to all staff who supported the organisation and supervision of the trip.

 Year 9 Alton Towers Trip

Year 9 students recently took part in a visit to Alton Towers, providing a well-earned opportunity to enjoy a memorable enrichment experience with their year group.

The trip supported the school’s wider commitment to personal development by giving students the chance to build confidence, develop social skills and enjoy positive experiences beyond the formal curriculum. Students were able to spend time with friends, engage with staff in a different setting and demonstrate maturity and responsibility throughout the visit.

The day ran successfully, with students showing excellent behaviour and a positive attitude. Thank you to all staff involved in planning, coordinating and supervising the visit, ensuring students had a safe and enjoyable experience.

Year 10 National Holocaust Centre Trip

On the 2nd June the History department took 50 year 9 History students on the annual trip to the National Holocaust Centre. Students took part in a number of workshops with staff and visited the gardens and exhibitions of the centre. Students then heard a testimony from a holocaust survivor. It was heart-warming to hear the positive feedback about our students from the Centre.

Art Department Update

This week the Art Department would like to celebrate the work of 3 young females from our GCSE cohort. Janvi, Jensi & Priyansi chose human form, pattern and nature as their themes for their GCSE Exam. These pieces took 10 hours to complete and use materials ranging from pen and pencil to marbling and brusho. More student work can be seen at our Exhibition on GCSE Results day and in next week’s newsletter.

Year 7 Drumming Workshop Hits the Right Beat!

As part of their Enrichment Day, Year 7 students enjoyed an exciting and energetic drumming workshop led by professional drummer Nick Ledbury.

Nick has an impressive musical background, having appeared as one of the Mechanics in the popular children's television programme Justin's House and even earning a place in the Guinness World Records as part of the largest group of drummers ever assembled.

During the workshop, students learned a variety of drumming rhythms and techniques, developing their listening, coordination and teamwork skills. They then combined these rhythms to create and perform their own short musical piece.

The session was filled with enthusiasm, creativity and plenty of noise! Students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to try something new and gained a real appreciation for the skill and concentration involved in making music together.

A huge thank you to Nick for delivering such an engaging and memorable experience.

 Message from Children's Commissioner England

Children’s Commissioner would like to conduct national survey to capture student views. Students are encouraged to take part in national survey. Please see below link.

The more pupils who participate from school, the more accurately their experiences, views and aspirations will be reflected in the national picture that will help shape future policy.

At a time of significant change for children and young people, it is more important than ever that their views are reflected in policymaking. Through this survey, they can take the voices of  students directly to the centre of government.

Student champions who generate particularly high levels of participation will receive a formal thank you from office of Children’s Commissioner for England to recognising their contribution to amplifying young people’s voices.

Schools and colleges with the highest response levels will be invited to attend final Festival of Childhood, celebrating the voices and contributions of children and young people from across England.
