Secondary Parents' Bulletin 13.03.26

Head of Secondary's Message

It has been another positive week at Avanti Fields. This week we took time as a staff community to reflect on the Avanti Way, including a guided meditation led by Mrs Thornton, our chaplaincy. It was a lovely moment for staff to pause and reconnect with the values that underpin our school.

A heartfelt thank you to Dipak Patel for his support in helping organise Leicester’s first Bhajan Jam, which took place on Sunday 8th  March. The event featured the phenomenal Bhavik Haria and his wonderful team of musicians and technicians, who created a truly uplifting spiritual atmosphere for everyone who attended.

The evening brought together around 1300 people, including many members of our Avanti family. It was incredibly special to see children, parents and adults from across the community come together in devotion, singing bhajans and sharing in a powerful sense of unity, spirituality and joy. Events like this beautifully reflect the heart of our ethos – creating spaces where community, faith and reflection can flourish.

We are also incredibly grateful to Bhavik Haria, who has made a generous donation of £1500 to the school. We truly appreciate his continued support for our school community. Thank you once again to everyone who supported and attended this very special evening.

We are looking forward to our Year 10 Virtual Parents’ Consultation Evening on Tuesday 17th March (14:00 – 19:00) with an early finish for the secondary school at 12:50. These meetings are an important opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss students’ progress, review recent assessment outcomes and agree clear next steps to support learning. SchoolCloud remains open, so if you have not yet booked your appointments, please do so as soon as possible. Remote learning for periods 5 and 6 will be uploaded to Microsoft Teams for students to complete and submit.

It was also wonderful to host our first transition meeting with our incoming Year 6 students and their parents this week as part of our transition programme. It was fantastic to see so many families attend, and we are very excited to welcome these students into the Avanti family in the coming year.

Warm regards

Ms N Kholia

Workshops by Leicester City Youth Service

As part of the PSHE curriculum, there will be workshops delivered by the Youth Service.  The workshops are aimed to educate young people on the laws and effects of knife crime and to develop knowledge and safety.  Subjects covered will include joint enterprise and the impact on victims, families and the wider society.  We are very excited to welcome the Youth Workers into Avanti Fields and hope that the students find the workshops interact and informative.

The workshops will form part of the usual daily timetable and will not affect start time, break, lunch or home time.  Each tutor group will attend 1 x 55-minute session.  Workshops are designed to be age appropriate and tailored to each year group.  The final workshops for Year 7 will take place on Wednesday 15th April.
