Secondary Parents' Bulletin 15.05.26

Head of Secondary's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been wonderful to see so many of our Year 8 students enthusiastically rehearsing and preparing for the Avanti Sings Roundhouse performance, which will take place on Tuesday 9th June. Their commitment, energy and teamwork have been fantastic to see, and we look forward to what promises to be a very special event.

We have also been pleased to see another group of Year 8 students engaging so positively with the Year 8 Employer Visits this week. These opportunities are invaluable in helping students broaden their aspirations and develop important skills for the future.

As we now approach the final week before half term, please continue to ensure that your child attends school in full school uniform, ready to learn and prepared to maintain the high standards and expectations we are proud of across the school community.

Warm regards

Ms N Kholia

Department / Student Updates

GCSE Exam Behaviour Expectations

As we enter the GCSE exam season, we would like to inform you of some important expectations regarding student behaviour, particularly in and around the PE corridor and changing rooms.

The changing rooms are directly connected to the main sports hall, where all GCSE exams are taking place. To ensure our centre remains fully compliant with JCQ examination regulations and to provide our Year 11 students with the quiet, respectful environment they deserve, it is essential that all students follow the behaviour expectations that have been clearly and explicitly communicated to them.

Students must not communicate with others at any point along the PE corridor or while in the changing rooms. Sound easily carries through to the sports hall and any noise can disrupt exams, potentially compromising the exam conditions for those sitting them.

Please note that:

  • Any student who communicates in these areas will be issued with a C3.

  • These rules are in place throughout the exam season and are non-negotiable.

  • Students are reminded to show self-discipline and respect for those currently sitting exams - your child will be experience sitting their GCSEs in future exam seasons and would appreciate the same level of respect.

We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing this message at home, helping students understand the importance of maintaining a quiet and respectful environment during this critical period.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

PE department

Year 8 Work Experience – Employer Visits

As part of their preparation for workplace visits on Friday 5th June, all Year 8 students have taken part in employer-led workshops in school. We were pleased to welcome a range of organisations, including the National Space Centre, Gateway College, GNG Football Club and Leicester Podcast Studios.

During the sessions, students explored the wide variety of careers available within these organisations, including both familiar roles and those they may not have previously considered. They also completed tailored activities designed to help them prepare for their upcoming visits.

All Year 8 students engaged positively with the workshops, and we are looking forward to seeing them continue this learning during their workplace visits.

Year 8 Students Art work

The Art department celebrates the natural world constantly through our curriculum. This week we wanted to share with you some of our Yr8 student work in honour of David Attenborough’s 100th birthday this Friday. This work is from a project called ‘Attenborough’s Animals’ in which students create collages inspired by the work of contemporary collage artist and printmaker Mark Hearld.
