Head of Secondary's Message

This week on Thursday, we were delighted to celebrate Ratha Yatra, one of the most significant festivals in the Hindu calendar. Ratha Yatra, meaning "Festival of Chariots", commemorates the annual journey of Lord Jagannath and symbolises devotion, unity and the importance of community. Ratha Yatra festival day provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to deepen their understanding of this important Hindu festival, participate in traditional celebrations and join together in pulling the chariot, helping to bring to life the festival's messages of faith, service, unity and community. A huge thank you to Mrs Thornton, Miss Jones and the PRE team along with all the staff that helped throughout the day.

A particular highlight of the celebrations was the outstanding performances by our students. The tabla ensemble captivated the audience with their skill, precision and energy, showcasing the complexity and beauty of this traditional Indian instrument. We were also treated to a stunning Kathak dance performance, which demonstrated the grace, storytelling and artistry of one of India's classical dance forms. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Mrs Thornton, Ms K Patel, Miss Jones and all of the students and staff who worked so hard to make the event such a memorable and enjoyable occasion for everyone involved.

This week also marked an important milestone for our second cohort of Duke of Edinburgh students as they undertook their expedition. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award provides young people with invaluable opportunities to develop resilience, independence, teamwork and leadership skills beyond the classroom. Throughout their expedition, students were challenged to navigate unfamiliar routes, work collaboratively and demonstrate perseverance in the face of obstacles. We are incredibly proud of their commitment and preparation and we look forward to hearing about their experiences and achievements when they return.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. Together, we continue to provide our young people with opportunities to grow academically, personally and spiritually, helping them to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

Warm regards

Ms N Kholia

Ratha Yatra Festival

Our school community recently came together to celebrate the vibrant festival of Ratha Yatra, one of the most important festivals in the ISKCON tradition. Ratha Yatra commemorates the journey of Lord Jagannath, along with his brother Baladeva and sister Subhadra, from the temple to the streets, symbolising the Lord's desire to be accessible to everyone. The day was filled with devotion, culture, and joy as students and staff participated in a traditional chariot procession, accompanied by uplifting kirtan singing. Students showcased their talents and impressed the audience with their skilled tabla playing. They also had the opportunity to experience a classical dance performance, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The celebration provided a meaningful opportunity for our school community to come together in a spirit of gratitude and cultural understanding, making it a truly memorable occasion involved.

Year 7 Drumming Workshop Hits the Right Beat!

As part of their Enrichment Day, Year 7 students enjoyed an exciting and energetic drumming workshop led by professional drummer Nick Ledbury.

Nick has an impressive musical background, having appeared as one of the Mechanics in the popular children's television programme Justin's House and even earning a place in the Guinness World Records as part of the largest group of drummers ever assembled.

During the workshop, students learned a variety of drumming rhythms and techniques, developing their listening, coordination and teamwork skills. They then combined these rhythms to create and perform their own short musical piece.

The session was filled with enthusiasm, creativity and plenty of noise! Students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to try something new and gained a real appreciation for the skill and concentration involved in making music together.

A huge thank you to Nick for delivering such an engaging and memorable experience.

Message from Children's Commissioner England

Children’s Commissioner would like to conduct national survey to capture student views. Students are encouraged to take part in national survey. Please see below link.

The more pupils who participate from school, the more accurately their experiences, views and aspirations will be reflected in the national picture that will help shape future policy.

At a time of significant change for children and young people, it is more important than ever that their views are reflected in policymaking. Through this survey, they can take the voices of  students directly to the centre of government.

Student champions who generate particularly high levels of participation will receive a formal thank you from office of Children’s Commissioner for England to recognising their contribution to amplifying young people’s voices.

Schools and colleges with the highest response levels will be invited to attend final Festival of Childhood, celebrating the voices and contributions of children and young people from across England.
