Head of Secondary's Message
We were delighted to welcome so many families to our recent Year 6 Open Evening. The event was a real success, with our staff and students showcasing the wide range of opportunities and experiences available at our school. The enthusiasm, commitment, and warmth shown by everyone involved left a lasting impression on our visitors, and we are proud of the way our school community came together to create such a positive evening.
Yesterday we held our annual Key Stage 4 Careers Fair, bringing together a wide range of FE colleges, sixth forms, universities and local companies offering students valuable insights to support their decision-making for Post-16 pathways. It was wonderful to see so many families engaging with the event, and we hope students found the information and guidance both useful and inspiring. Thank you to Dr Sangar, Mrs Sembi and Mr Khabra for the planning and organisation of such a wonderful, informative event.
Our Year 11 mock exams begin next week. These assessments provide an important opportunity for students to practise exam techniques, identify areas for development, and build confidence ahead of the summer. We know this can be a challenging period and ask for your continued support in encouraging regular revision, healthy routines, and a balanced approach to wellbeing at home. A full timetable and guidance for parents and students has been emailed to parents and also uploaded on the Y11 Teams tile for students to access.
Warm regards
Ms N Kholia

Dear Parents / Carers
As we enter the GCSE mock exam season, we would like to inform you of some important expectations regarding student behaviour, particularly in and around the PE corridor and changing rooms.
The changing rooms are directly connected to the main sports hall, where all GCSE mock exams are taking place. To ensure our centre remains fully compliant with JCQ examination regulations and to provide our Year 11 students with the quiet, respectful environment they deserve, it is essential that all students follow the behaviour expectations that have been clearly and explicitly communicated to them.
Students must not communicate with others at any point along the PE corridor or while in the changing rooms. Sound easily carries through to the sports hall and any noise can disrupt exams, potentially compromising the exam conditions for those sitting them.
Please note that:
Any student who communicates in these areas will be issued with a C3.
These rules are in place throughout the exam season and are non-negotiable.
Students are reminded to show self-discipline and respect for those currently sitting exams - your child will be experience sitting their GCSEs in future exam seasons and would appreciate the same level of respect.
We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing this message at home, helping students understand the importance of maintaining a quiet and respectful environment during this critical period.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards
PE department

National Biology Week Spelling Bee 2026

To promote literacy The Royal Society of Biology is running this competition which is open to all students. Literacy is a key factor in an individual’s success in science exams and during a pupil’s journey. With learning science they encounter a huge number and variety of new words. These words may not be commonly used outside of science classrooms and so pupils may get fewer opportunities to practise accurate spelling of science words.
Round 1 will be w/c 28.09.26 (in science lesson) where the teacher will read aloud 20 words, all pupils will write the spellings down and the highest scorers will enter round 2. Round 2 will be w/c 05.10.26 (location/time will be confirmed to pupils) the teacher will read the word, and pupils must verbally say the spelling and get through as many words as possible in a set time. The top scorers' names will be submitted to the National spelling bee competition panel, if the pupils qualify, they will then be entered to the National Finals.
Learn the words refer to below document to be in with a chance to earn reward points and prizes!! Good luck everyone!
Spanish Cultural Poster Edition 3
Las arepas - El Rincón Hispano #3
Edition 3 of our Avanti Fields Spanish cultural poster is out!
In this edition, find out about...
Las arepas
Tengo ganas de... - I feel like... / I want to...
Arepas are corn cakes with 3,000‑year‑old origins and are popular in Colombia and Venezuela. Naturally gluten free, they can have many different fillings. The world's largest arepa took over an hour to make and weighed 493kg - that's nearly half a tonne!
Exciting Reading News!
We are delighted to launch our first reading initiative of the year and can't wait to share it with you!
To help create a vibrant reading culture across the school, students and staff will be using chalk pens on our classroom doors/ windows to display what they are currently reading. From gripping novels and inspiring biographies to fascinating non-fiction texts, our classroom doors will become mini reading showcases for everyone to enjoy.
This simple but powerful initiative is designed to spark conversations about books, encourage reading recommendations, and celebrate reading as a community. We hope our students will be inspired to pick up something new after seeing what others are enjoying!
Music Department Updates
This year the Music department is on a mission to help our talented students share their abilities with the rest of our school community. If any student would like to take part in our upcoming lunch concerts all they need to do is go to their year group tile and fill in the form.
