Head of Secondary's Message
A warm welcome back to all our students and staff this half term.
Thank you to all families who attended the virtual Year 9 Parents’ evening earlier this week. It was a valuable opportunity to discuss progress, Key Stage 4 options and next steps. We greatly appreciate your engagement at this important stage in your child’s education.
Although this is a short half term, it is a very busy one, with a number of important events taking place:
Gaura Purnima Festival Day
A range of guest speakers and curriculum workshops
Year 11 College offer events
Year 10 Parents’ consultation evening
Year 6 Transition welcome meeting (virtual)
GCSE Drama practical exam

Further information about specific events will be shared directly with relevant year groups in due course.
Year 11 Parents and Carers
Final PIP2 reports will be released on Friday 20th March via the Arbor app. These reports provide important information to support students in the final phase of preparation for their GCSE examinations.
Finally, thank you for your continued support in reinforcing our school uniform expectations and routines, particularly in relation to punctuality and the new transition bells. We have already seen a positive impact on the calm and purposeful environment across the school.
Warm regards
Ms N Kholia

Gaura Purnima Importance

Gaura Purnima is the appearance day of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and is a significant festival within the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism.
The festival takes place on the full moon (Purnima) in the month of Phalguna (February–March). The word “Gaura” means golden, referring to Lord Chaitanya’s golden complexion. Gaura Purnima marks his birth in 1486 in Mayapur, India.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is revered by many Hindus as an incarnation of Lord Krishna who taught the importance of bhakti - loving devotion to God. He spread the practice of sankirtan, the joyful chanting of God’s names, encouraging people from all backgrounds to connect with God through humility and compassion.
His teachings emphasised:
Equality and inclusion
Service to others (seva)
Joyful worship through music and prayer
Living with humility and kindness
Gaura Purnima is traditionally observed through prayer, devotional singing and reflection, celebrating a message of love, unity and spiritual devotion.

Year 8 Computer science - Generative AI talk - 27th February 2026

We were excited to introduce the year 8 Computer Science groups to Generative AI (Gen AI) in an engaging and age-appropriate talk. It was delivered by Dr. Monika S , a Principal Consultant – Data & AI at Accenture UK. She is also a registered STEM Ambassador and Tech We Can Champion.
Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can create text, images, and even music based on patterns it has learned. The goal was to help students understand how AI works, its real-world applications, and how to use it responsibly.
During the session in school, students learnt about:
AI in simple terms using fun, interactive examples
Shown how AI can assist with creativity and problem-solving
Discussed the ethical considerations, such as misinformation and responsible AI us.
The types of careers currently available in the field of AI
Generative AI is shaping the future of work, opening up exciting careers in AI development, creative AI design, and even AI ethics and policy. Students who develop an interest in AI today could become the innovators of tomorrow, working in fields like robotics, game design, and digital art.
Y9 Health and Wellbeing questionnaire
As part of our safeguarding and wellbeing offer to students, we link closely with the school nurse team. As part of this offer, the school nurse team run a Health and Wellbeing questionnaire for selected year groups to highlight any concerns. As per the whole school calendar, Y9 will be take part in this opportunity during their Citizenship lesson on Thursday 05.03.26.
This provides a good opportunity for students to share any health or general concerns they may have with trained NHS school nurse teams. Information shared by students to the school nurse team is confidential unless there are safeguarding concerns in which case the school nurse team will contact parents directly to share any information and concerns. Students have the right to opt out on the day. If you would like to discuss this further or wish to opt your child out, please email laura.bigginton@avanti.org.uk and we can arrange this.
Workshops by Leicester City Youth Service

As part of the PSHE curriculum, Year 11 will be attending a workshop delivered by the Youth Service. The workshops are aimed to educate young people on the laws and effects of knife crime and to develop knowledge and safety. Subjects covered will include joint enterprise and the impact on victims, families and the wider society. We are very excited to welcome the Youth Workers into Avanti Fields and hope that the students find the workshops interact and informative.
The workshops will form part of the usual daily timetable and will not affect start time, break, lunch or home time. Each tutor group will attend 1 x 55-minute session. Workshops are designed to be age appropriate and tailored to each year group.
Workshops and an assembly are also scheduled for other year groups as listed below, and reminders will be sent in due course.
