Head of Primary's Message Dear Parents and Carers,    As we move into the colder winter months, we know that colds and coughs are common. While we understand that children may sometimes be unwell, it is important that they attend school every day unless they are genuinely too ill to come. Every day counts towards their learning and development.  At our school, we follow The Avanti Way, which values education, personal responsibility, and community. We are pleased to announce that we have appointed our Early Years Lead and STEM Lead. A huge congratulations to Miss Athwal for being appointed as Early Years Lead and Miss Vernon for being appointed as STEM Lead. Our Lead's have shared a message for you below, we look forward to supporting their journey's here at Avanti Fields.    The early years is truly where my heart lies as a practitioner, I have enjoyed every moment of teaching within the early years and each year my passion grows. As I step into the role of Early Years Lead, I am committed to creating a nurturing, engaging, and high-quality learning environment for our youngest learners to ensure they have a great early years experience. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Avanti Fields is all about.   We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!   Sunflower room      This week in Sunflower Room we have be making salt dough gingerbread men and identifying their body parts.   Preschool   Pre-school have been learning about melting and freezing. We used our senses to explore natural materials.     Reception    In Reception this week we had special visitors come in. They talked all about the importance of dental health. We even got to practise our brushing skills on two special dragon friends, and we took home a gift to help us keep our teeth clean. Year 1   Year 1 enjoyed celebrating Odd Socks Day as part of Anti-Bullying Week. We talked about how our differences make us special and linked this to the British Value of  Mutual Respect . The children decorated individual jigsaw pieces to show what makes them unique and when joined together we represent our caring classroom community.    Year 2   Year 2 had a fantastic time taking a tour of the school and locating different physical and human features! What human and physical features do you know about?   Year 3   Year 3 enjoyed taking part in a food and nutrition workshop led by Govinda’s. We learnt all about the importance of a balanced diet, and all about food and nutrition. We also smelt and identified different spices. We made a yummy Greek Salad. Can you have a go at eating a balanced diet at home?      Road Safety Reminder   We would like to remind all families of the importance of using the designated zebra crossings when moving around the school site. While it may sometimes feel quicker to take alternative routes, using the zebra crossing is the safest option for both children and adults. Please help us model safe behaviour for our pupils by following this guidance at all times.    Parking and Traffic Flow   To support a safe and steady flow of traffic, access to the car park is limited to parents of children in Preschool to Year 2, or to those who hold a valid car park pass. Parents of children in older year groups should only enter the site if they also have a younger sibling. We kindly ask all families to follow these rules to ensure the safety of everyone on site.  We are aware that congestion can build up during busy times. To help ease pressure and promote healthier travel habits, we continue to encourage families to “park and stride” whenever possible and to take part in our whole-school “Walk to School” initiative.  Thank you for your cooperation and continued support in keeping our school community safe.    WOW Walk to School     ‘WOW Walk to School’ has been very successful so far amongst our Year 2 and Year 3 pupils where families should aim to arrive at school ‘actively’ at least once a week. For example; this could be by walking, scooting, riding a bike or even park and stride (park where you cannot see the school and walk the rest of the way). Each day the children track how they arrive at school and if active at least once a week for a whole month, they will receive a monthly badge to recognise their achievements. This is a fantastic way of staying fit and healthy as well as supporting our school values in caring for our environment. Thank you to those families who have shown a real effort in supporting this initiative wherever possible, you are making a real difference. The figures show a huge decrease of families driving to school moving from 90% in September to 53% in November. Let’s keep walking!       Year 2 SATs meeting reminder:     Year 2 parents are invited to join the SATS workshop on Thursday 27 th November at 3.00 -3.30pm in the Primary Hall. Head of Secondary's Message We would like to express our thanks to Mrs Morbey and Mrs Askham, along with the full Spanish team, for leading and delivering the recent Spanish Speaking mock exams for our Year 11 students. These assessments form an important part of GCSE preparation, and we are grateful for the care and support shown to students throughout the process. We are also proud to celebrate our Year 11 Sports Ambassadors, who recently led a series of Primary Sports Festivals. Their leadership, kindness and encouragement ensured all students felt supported and included, and we were delighted to receive highly positive feedback from organisers and Primary school staff. They demonstrated the Avanti values beautifully and acted as fantastic role models to younger students. We would like to also extend our thanks to Mrs Kansara for all her efforts and dedication in training our Sports Ambassadors and providing these rich opportunities for our students to flourish. A reminder that our Trust-wide INSET Day will take place tomorrow - Friday 21 st  November 2025. School will be closed to all students on this day as staff will be taking part in professional development activities. KS3 & KS4 DT classes Please can all Mr Westwood’s KS3 and KS4 students ensure their class books/booklets are brought to school every lesson . These should not kept at home. Punctuality reminder We would like to kindly remind all families of the importance of punctuality in ensuring a calm and focused start to the school day. Arriving on time helps students settle, organise themselves and be fully prepared for learning. Students should arrive through the gates between 8.05am and 8.15am  each day. On Wednesdays only , students should arrive through the gates between 8.45am and 9.00am  due to the later start. All students are expected to be in their tutor rooms by 8.20am every morning and 9:05am on Wednesdays  for a prompt start to the school day. It was wonderful to see so many pupils celebrating what makes us all unique. Throughout the week, the children have been reflecting on the importance of kindness, respect and empathy, and exploring how their words and actions can make a positive difference to others. We also marked Remembrance Day with thoughtful discussions across the school. The children showed great maturity as they learned about the significance of remembrance and took time to reflect on those who have served and sacrificed. It was wonderful to see so many children embracing their individuality and bringing such a colourful, creative energy to school.  A huge congratulations to all the winners of our Creative Odd Sock Competition! Your designs were truly imaginative, unique, and full of personality. We were so impressed by the effort, creativity, and fun that went into each entry—it really made our washing line come alive!  Thank you to all the children who took part and to all parents/carers for supporting this celebration of uniqueness. Head of Secondary's Message On Wednesday 12 th  November, we held our first School Improvement Board (SIB) of the year. This was an important part of our ongoing journey to review progress, celebrate success and continue to strengthen the education and care we provide. Early feedback has been very positive, highlighting strong curriculum provision and exemplary behaviour and attitudes. Our students were articulate, confident, respectful and deeply proud of their school. Head of Secondary's Message A very warm welcome back to all our students and families as we begin the Autumn Term 2. I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half-term break.  It was truly heart-warming to see so many of our students at the local temple supporting the Hindu New Year’s Day celebrations. Seeing our students embody the Avanti Way through their selfless service and commitment filled me with pride and joy. Many volunteered from early in the morning through to the late evening, demonstrating kindness, community spirit, and dedication - values that truly reflect what it means to be part of Avanti Fields.  As we return to school, a gentle reminder that students should arrive by 8:15am ready for registration at 8:20am, and must be in full school uniform, including the correct school shoes (no trainers).  This half term is set to be a busy and exciting one, with a range of activities, events, fixtures, trips, and PIP assessments taking place across the school.  Our Year 11 students will begin their Spanish speaking mock exams next week, and Arbor reports will be shared via the Arbor platform at the end of November, ahead of the Year 11 face-to-face Parents’ Evening on Thursday 4 th  December (14:00-19:00). Executive Principal's Message The Autumn Term has begun beautifully for our primary pupils. It has been a smooth start, full of warmth, positivity, and a clear focus on maintaining strong routines and nurturing connections between children and staff. From the staggered start that allowed our Reception teachers to get to know their new pupils closely, to welcoming new families into our Pre-School, it has been wonderful to see our community continue to grow. With our pupils now reaching Year 3, there is great excitement as we embark on the Key Stage 2 curriculum. A new addition to our start of year was holding a special yagna to welcome our newest pupils to their educational journey.   It was a pleasure to welcome parents to the first of our three Parent-Teacher Evenings. These evenings offer valuable opportunities to celebrate each child’s learning journey, character development, and personal and spiritual growth. We have also enjoyed hosting our Reception Reading Workshop and the Year 1 PSC and Reading Workshop — both well attended and full of enthusiasm for supporting children’s literacy at home and school.   A highlight this term was our vibrant and successful Primary Open Day. The turnout was exceptional, and we anticipate another year of oversubscribed applications — a true reflection of the dedication and excellence of our staff and children. The event was a real team effort, and I extend heartfelt thanks to our (secondary) student helpers, teachers, administrative team, premises and cleaning staff, and the Govinda’s catering team for making the day such a success. We will continue to host Open Morning Tours throughout the next half-term, giving prospective families a glimpse of our thriving community ahead of the Primary Admissions deadline on 15 th January 2026.   Beyond the classroom, our children continue to grow in character, creativity, and confidence. Year 3 enjoyed an Archery Enrichment Day, and we have introduced external gymnastics coaching to further enhance our PE curriculum. Our after-school clubs are in full swing, and our Experience Events and Trips Programme is well underway, including a meaningful visit to the ISKCON temple. We continue to promote the Rights Respecting Award and are preparing to launch our new School Councils and Leadership Groups for the year ahead.   As the half-term draws to a close, our school has been alive with celebration and colour for Diwali. I had the joy of watching the Year 1 Diwali performance this morning — it was a truly touching moment, filled with confidence, joy, and excitement from our young performers.   We were also privileged to host ten wonderful nights of Navratri celebrations, beautifully organised by our fantastic PTFA. Thousands from our wider community joined together to dance, celebrate, and connect in a safe and welcoming space. With live music from BIJ Promotions, it was a truly memorable celebration. The word Deepavali  means “a row of lamps,” and the festival symbolises the victory of light over darkness , good over evil , and knowledge over ignorance . During Diwali, homes are decorated with diyas  (oil lamps), candles, and colourful rangoli  patterns. Families clean and decorate their houses, exchange gifts, and share sweets as a symbol of love and togetherness. Fireworks light up the sky to celebrate the joy of the occasion. For Hindus , Diwali is often linked to the story of Lord Rama , who returned to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile and his victory over the demon king Ravana . The people of Ayodhya lit lamps to welcome him home, filling the city with light and happiness. Executive Principal's Half Term Reflection The Autumn term for our secondary pupils is always one of the busiest — and this year has been no exception! It has been an eight-week half-term filled with learning, laughter and growth, and I am so proud of the kindness, resilience and camaraderie shown by our pupils throughout. We were delighted to welcome our new cohort of Year 7 pupils, who have settled into secondary life wonderfully. Their parents also had the chance to meet form tutors and discuss how their children are adjusting — a valuable opportunity to build those early home–school connections.   Led by Ms Kholia, we hosted our annual start-of-year Parent Information Evenings for each year group. These sessions gave parents an overview of key events for the academic year, updates to our behaviour and anti-bullying policies, and insight into our ongoing commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.   Our Year 11 students have completed their first round of mock exams and will receive detailed feedback and targeted next steps after the holidays. Alongside this, they have begun attending their careers guidance interviews, which will continue into the next half-term as they prepare to submit their college applications before Christmas. To support this process, we also held our annual KS4 Careers Fair for Years 10 and 11 — a fantastic event that connected pupils with further education providers, apprenticeship routes, and a wide range of employers.   This half-term also saw a highly successful and well-attended Secondary Open Evening. We anticipate another year of oversubscribed applications — a testament to the excellent work of our staff and students. The event was a true team effort, and I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to our student helpers, teachers, admin team, premises and cleaning staff, and the Govinda’s catering team for making the evening such a success. Following this, we have been running a series of open morning tours, giving prospective families a glimpse of our vibrant school community before the secondary admissions deadline on 31 st  October 2025. Beyond academics, we have continued to nurture our pupils’ character and spiritual development. Our Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh group successfully completed their expedition and are now ready to receive their Bronze Award — congratulations to them all! This year’s Student Council has been elected and is already hard at work within three new sub-committees: Eco Committee – “Nature’s Best Friend” Spirituality Committee – “To Believe, To Engage, To Connect” Diversity Committee – “Embrace Yourself, No Matter Who You Are”   Running alongside our yoga curriculum, we have introduced Sanga sessions for all secondary pupils. In small groups, students take time to reflect, connect, and explore some of life’s deeper questions — an enriching addition to our wellbeing programme.   We have also expanded our enrichment offer, introducing LAMDA sessions alongside our wide range of peripatetic music lessons and after-school clubs. Our pupils have also started competing in city-wide sporting fixtures, achieving some excellent early results — well done to all our teams! Pupils have enjoyed a number of exciting educational trips already this term, including: Year 11 Geography fieldwork Year 11 Drama theatre trip Year 10 CNAT Sport visit Year 8 Black Country Museum trip   To round off the half-term, we celebrated Diwali with joy and colour. This year, our activities were supported by Avanti House Sixth Form pupils, who led sessions and beautifully modelled what spiritual leadership can look like.   Finally, we were privileged to host 10 wonderful nights of Navratri celebrations, organised and promoted by our fantastic PTFA. Thousands of members of our wider community joined us to dance, celebrate and connect in a safe and welcoming environment. With live music from BIJ Promotions, it was truly a memorable celebration — and we are humbled, as always, to serve as a joyful centre for our community. And a very big thank you to our PTFA for organising Diwali cupcakes for all of our pupils. I know they were enjoyed by all. They played four games and although we came 4 th  out of 5 schools the girls showed a real determination and resilience to keep going and improve during their games. They experienced playing against different levels of ability and this gave them a real desire to keep attending netball club and improve their skills and game play. Well done to Aaria who scored our goals, Kavya who played out of position in defence as goalkeeper and found her strength and Hanaya who dominated the court with her centre position and received our player’s player vote.   Year 8 History Trip Year 8 had a fantastic time on the trip to the Black Country Museum on Tuesday 14 th  October. The students went into the world of the Industrial Revolution and gained a real-world perspective of the time. They also had the opportunity to experience a Victorian School and visit the Mine. They even saw part of the set of the BBC show Peaky Blinders whilst on their visit.  All students and staff had a wonderful time .   European Day of Languages To celebrate European Day of Languages the Spanish department launched a poster competition with the theme “ Languages Open Hearts and Minds .” We received many fantastic entries, all of which have been submitted to the Council of Europe for an international competition. In addition, students also had the opportunity to participate in a form time quiz and house competitions to test their cultural knowledge and celebrate the power of languages.   Art Project work by Year 7    Year 7 have been creating prints this week inspired by their William Morris Autumn Foliage project  this term. There has been some lovely work, and we particularly wanted to share these 3 prints where students successfully managed to create a double layer print in 2 colours. Well done Year 7.  The Meaning of Diwali and Govardhan Puja Diwali – The Festival of Lights Diwali, also known as Deepavali , is one of the most important and widely celebrated festivals in India and among Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains around the world. The word Deepavali  means “a row of lamps,” and the festival symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. During Diwali, homes are decorated with diyas  (oil lamps), candles, and colourful rangoli  patterns. Families clean and decorate their houses, exchange gifts, and share sweets as a symbol of love and togetherness. Fireworks light up the sky to celebrate the joy of the occasion. For Hindus, Diwali is often linked to the story of Lord Rama, who returned to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile and his victory over the demon king Ravana. The people of Ayodhya lit lamps to welcome him home, filling the city with light and happiness.Many also associate Diwali with Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and pray for peace, success, and new beginnings in the year ahead. For Sikhs, Diwali marks the release of the Sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Ji, and 52 princes from imprisonment in Gwalior Fort in 1619. The Golden Temple in Amritsar is illuminated with thousands of lamps, symbolising freedom, hope, and the triumph of justice. For Jains, Diwali is a sacred day that commemorates Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara , attaining moksha  (spiritual liberation). It reminds followers of the importance of truth, non-violence, and inner peace. Across these faiths, Diwali unites people in celebrating the power of light and goodness. It is a time to reflect on one’s actions, forgive others, and spread kindness and compassion. Beyond the lights and fireworks, Diwali teaches that the true light shines from within — through good deeds, love, and understanding. Govardhan Puja – The Day After Diwali The day after Diwali is celebrated as Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakut  (meaning “mountain of food”). This festival commemorates an important story from the life of Lord Krishna. According to Hindu scriptures, the people of Vrindavan once prepared a grand offering for Lord Indra, the god of rain, to thank him for the monsoon. However, Lord Krishna taught them that they should instead worship Govardhan Hill and the cows, which provided them with food, shelter, and nourishment. Angered by this, Indra sent heavy rains to punish the villagers. To protect them, Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill with his little finger, providing shelter to all the people and animals until the rain stopped. This act showed that faith in God and caring for nature are greater than fear or blind rituals. During Govardhan Puja, devotees build small models of Govardhan Hill using cow dung, clay, or food, and offer a variety of dishes to Krishna. The offerings represent gratitude for nature’s blessings and a reminder of humanity’s duty to care for the environment and all living beings. Head of Secondary's Message We were delighted to welcome our Year 7 parents earlier this week to meet their child’s tutor. The atmosphere throughout the evening was warm and positive, and it was wonderful to see so many families connecting and learning more about their child’s start at Avanti Fields School. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to such a successful evening.  As we approach the final week of this half term, there is plenty to look forward to across the school. Our Year 8 students will be visiting the Black Country museum, several competitions will be taking place, and we will be celebrating our Diwali Festival day. Head of Primary's Message Dear Parents and Carers,   As we head into the final week of Autumn Term 1, I have been reflecting on what a joyful and enriching start to the year it has been. The children have embraced exciting new adventures in their learning, and I am so proud of the enthusiasm and curiosity they have shown.    Thank you to all the families who have supported with the Harvest Festival donations. We will be sending our donations to Leicester South Food Bank     This coming week we will be celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights. As Lord Krishna reminds us, “Even the smallest lamp can dispel the deepest darkness.”  Diwali is a time to reflect on the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. This story connects beautifully with The Avanti Way, which guides us to live with integrity, show courage in our actions, and bring joy and positivity into our community. Whether it’s a breakthrough in understanding, a beautifully presented piece of work, or a moment of teamwork and joy, these snapshots capture the best of what learning at Avanti Fields is all about.   We’re proud to share and celebrate these moments with our school community!   Sunflower room    This week, Sunflowers have been accessing communication in different ways. Our favourite way was with a balloon and watching it get ‘bigger’. They enjoyed watching the balloon expand and then fly away. Preschool   This week, pre-school have been making marks in the sand. They have been using their fine motor skills to copy the designs they can see. They enjoyed using paint brushes to help draw patterns. The children were very resilient and tried very hard with their learning.     Reception   This week, our Reception children had a fantastic time taking part in a lively drumming workshop! The session was full of rhythm, movement, and smiles as the children explored different beats and learned to play together as a group. It was a wonderful opportunity to develop listening skills, coordination, and creativity- all while having lots of fun!    Year 1       Year 1 had a wonderful time learning drumming with our special visitor. The children really enjoyed exploring different African drums, trying out the sounds, and learning simple beats and rhythms. They had so much fun playing together and making music as a group.   Year 2   Our wonderful Year 2 children have embraced becoming historians this week by delving into life in London during the 17 th  century. We researched facts about a historical figure named Samuel Pepys, created a timeline of his life and even created our very own olden day paper using tea bags. It has been an exciting week,  travelling back in time and deepening our learning around the Great Fire of London!    Year 3   This week, our Year 3 children have been working on their DT skills! We have created a template and used this to create a box! We used our precision skills to cut carefully around the template and decorated our boxes with fabric! Head of Secondary's Message Our Year 11 mock exams begin next week. These assessments provide an important opportunity for students to practise exam techniques, identify areas for development, and build confidence ahead of the summer. We know this can be a challenging period and ask for your continued support in encouraging regular revision, healthy routines, and a balanced approach to wellbeing at home. We were delighted to host our Key Stage 4 Careers Event yesterday evening. A wide range of organisations attended, offering students valuable insights to support their decision-making for Post-16 pathways. It was wonderful to see so many families engaging with the event, and we hope all those that attended found the information and guidance both useful and inspiring. Student Council elections will take place this half term. The Student Council plays an important role in school life giving students the chance to share their views, contribute to decisions, and work on projects that improve our school community. Please encourage your child to consider standing as a Student Council representative for their tutor group. This is a valuable opportunity to develop confidence, leadership and communication skills, as well as to make a positive difference. They have selected the following candidates to present their speeches next week. The Candidates are:  Chairperson : Abhay (10 Water) and Gopal (9 Water) Vice Chairperson : Krista (10 Water) and Tanish (9 Cosmos) Secretary: Hanaya (8 Cosmos) and Pranav (7 Aether)   We were impressed by the very high standard of all applications, and we encourage those who were not successful this year to reapply next year. Navratri Celebration This year, students and staff gathered daily in the school’s worship hall at lunch times, to observe the Hindu festival of Navratri. Over both lunches, over 80 students came together with teachers to offer aarti during this important festival. Students took turns to offer aarti whilst singing the sacred aarti song, and honoured prashad at the end. The students all commented how they appreciated this opportunity which added to their personal celebration of the sacred nine days.   During collective worship, the staff leading the sessions in the mornings explained the deep significance of the festival and gave students meditations for their own observations of the festival.   My sincere appreciation to the members of staff who gave up their lunch times, to ensure a running of the daily rituals, and for their contributions of flowers and prashad.   It is always a pleasure to organise such events during these important Hindu festivals, and it is always very inspiring to see so many students coming along and taking part to nicely with devotion and enthusiasm. - Mr. P Patel  Parents and Carers webinar Please see link below the live parents and carers webinar for further information and registrations. . For the very first time, we enjoyed 10 days of festivities at the school, and it was fantastic to see so many students take part. Parents were able to drop off their children with confidence, knowing it was a safe and welcoming environment. We’re delighted to share that over 3,000 people attended  throughout the festival! A big thank you to the PTFA for supporting BIJ in making this such a memorable success and helping establish it as an annual event. Special appreciation goes to the live musicians from India , who gave us an incredible atmosphere with their music, and to the Lettings Team for their continued support throughout. You are so empathetic and we are all very lucky to know such a kind friend Rights Respecting Article of the week:     Every week, children will be learning about an ‘Article of the Week’. This will help our children to learn and develop an understanding about the Convention on the Rights of the Child articles.      Article 27: Every Child Has the Right to a Good Standard of Living   Harvest and Sharing Food   Talk with your child about how harvests provide the food we eat and how it’s important that all children have enough to eat. Together, take a walk outside or visit a local market or garden and look for different foods that come from harvests—fruits, vegetables, grains, and more.  Encourage your child to collect or photograph some of the foods they see, and together create a small “Harvest Table” at home.
